Organized by Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), the 26th Anniversary Celebration Series event, The 2nd Macao Summit Forum on Modernization and Internationalization of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Plaque Unveiling Ceremony of the “Macao Wang Qi Academy”, will be held on Friday, 27 March 2026, from 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the N101 Auditorium of MUST. The event will bring together distinguished experts and scholars from Mainland China, Macao, and overseas to discuss new directions in the modernization, internationalization, and interdisciplinary development of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
Backed by the Motherland and connected to the world, Macao serves as an important window and gateway for TCM to reach the international community. Over the years, the State and the Macao SAR Government have continuously introduced supportive measures to promote the inheritance, innovation, and development of TCM and the big health industry. Since its establishment, MUST has set up the Faculty of Chinese Medicine and has developed into the only higher education institution in Macao with a complete TCM curriculum system. The State Key Laboratory of Mechanism and Quality of Chinese Medicine (formerly named The State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine), established in 2011, was also the first State Key Laboratory in the field of Chinese medicine in China, highlighting MUST’s strong foundation in talent cultivation, scientific research, and international exchange in TCM.
On the occasion of MUST’s 26th anniversary, and following the success of the inaugural forum, the University is hosting the second edition of the summit forum to build a high-level international platform for academic exchange in TCM, bringing together global wisdom and resources to explore its inheritance, innovation, and international development. On the same day, the plaque unveiling ceremony of the “Macao Wang Qi Academy” and the launch of its inaugural training programme will also be held, marking the establishment of the first Wang Qi Academy outside Mainland China.
Initiated by Professor Wang Qi, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and National Master of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Wang Qi Academy was established in 2021 as a high-level talent cultivation platform supported by the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Established under the auspices of MUST, the Wang Qi Academy will fully leverage Macao’s unique advantages and international platform to foster global exchange and collaboration in TCM and big health, promote the cultivation of high-level talent, and support the global development of Chinese medicine.
The forum will feature keynote lectures by distinguished experts and scholars from Mainland China, Macao, and overseas, including Professor Wang Qi of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, Professor Gerhard Litscher of the Swiss University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Professor Liu Baoyan of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, Professor Dennis Chang of NICM Health Research Institute at Western Sydney University, Professor Shaoping Li of the University of Macau, and Professor Graça Soveral of the University of Lisbon. They will share insights into the modernization, internationalization, and interdisciplinary integration of TCM.
