MUST Launches a New Program of PhD and MSc in Materials Science

On 22 July, 2024, the newly established Doctor of Philosophy in Materials Science and Engineering (DMSE) Program and Master of Science in Materials Science and Engineering (MMSE) Program at the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) received official registration and approval from the Macao SAR government. The programs are scheduled to commence in the fall of the 2024/2025 academic year, and the online application period runs from now to August 15, 2024.

The development of the field of materials science and engineering has greatly promoted the cross-integration of multi-disciplines and has become a key research field integrating cutting-edge, cross-cutting and multi-disciplinary characteristics. It is increasingly valued by governments and scientific circles of various countries. Today, the new materials industry has penetrated into all aspects of the national economy, national defense construction and social life, and is an important foundation for the development of current high-tech industries. The demand for applied professionals in the field of materials science is increasing day by day, and the development prospects are broad. MUST makes full use of its own advantages, combines social needs, and adapts to the development of the times to offer a PhD degree program and a master's degree program in materials science and engineering. It aims to cultivate applied professionals in materials science-related fields with international standards and technological innovation capabilities, as well as senior professionals engaged in research, teaching, development, production and management in related fields, and further promote knowledge exchange and innovation on a global scale.

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering of the Faculty of Innovation Engineering is led by Chair Professor Shuit-Tong Lee, a Member of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Fellow of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS), which relies on the "Macau Institute of Materials Science and Engineering" for education and scientific research. The subject field "Materials Science" of MUST ranks among the top 1% in the world in the " Essential Science Indicators, ESI ". "Nano Science and Technology" ranks in the 201-300 range in the world, and "Materials Science and Engineering" ranks in the 301-400 range in the world in Shanghai Ranking "2023 Ranking of World-Class Subjects".
