25 Years of Brilliance, Embarking on a New Chapter MUST Open Day 2025 was successfully held

In celebration of the 25th Anniversary of Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), Open Day 2025 was successfully held on 23rd February 2025. Upholding the motto of “Dedication to practical studies, Enhancement of knowledge, Ability and Quality”, MUST was growing and progressing alongside the Macao SAR Government, and has rapidly developed into a multi-disciplinary university with the largest number of students in Macao. This event featured display booths, exhibitions, achievement showcases, and interactive activities that highlight MUST's significant academic and scientific achievements from various perspectives.

The Open Day offered nearly 200 diverse activities, sharing cutting-edge research, campus life experiences, and first-hand information, helping the public better understand the University. The event attracted over 5,000 visitors. Various activities, experiences, workshops, presentations, exhibitions, and booths were enthusiastically received, all venues were packed to capacity. The event has been hailed as a resounding success.

In the opening ceremony, which was held at 10 a.m. on the same day at Block R Academic Complex of MUST, the Vice-Chancellor and President of MUST Chair Prof. Joseph Hun-wei LEE said that Macao is in a crucial period of economic diversification and coordinated regional development, MUST will seize the opportunity and actively participate in the construction of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, promote the transformation of scientific research achievements, and contribute to Macao's industrial upgrading. At the same time, it focuses on characteristic disciplines and international cooperation: deepening the fields of innovative engineering, traditional Chinese medicine, space science, humanities and arts, and carrying out in-depth cooperation with Portuguese-speaking countries and countries cooperating with the Belt and Road Initiative, so as to promote China's science and technology and culture to the world. Last year on 19th December, Chinese President Xi Jinping visited the Macau University of Science and Technology. He stressed the importance of maintaining a strategic focus on education, aligning academic disciplines and talent cultivation with the needs of Macao and the country. In the future, MUST will follow the instructions of President Xi Jinping in his important speeches, committing to innovating the education model, cultivating innovative talents who keep their country in mind and international vision, and actively integrating into the overall development of the country.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was officiated by Mr. Chan Iok Wai, Head Department of Students of Education and Youth Development Bureau, Macao SAR; Mr. Li Yong Le, Consultant (Level III) of the Department of Education and Youth Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Macao SAR; Dr. Chen Hong, President of The Chinese Educators Association of Macau; Mr. Leong, Su Weng, Vice Chairperson of Macao Catholic Schools Association; Mr. Dion Chen, Chairman of Hong Kong Direct Subsidy Scheme Schools Council ; Chair Prof. Joseph Hun-wei LEE, Vice-Chancellor and the President of MUST, and Prof. Pang Chuan, and Dr. Kwong Ying Wa, Vice-President of MUST. The ceremony was attended by representatives from higher and secondary educations institutes from Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao. After the ceremony, the guests visited the special featured exhibition Macau University of Science and Technology the 25th Anniversary of Macao's Handover Special Exhibition"The Radiance of Technology, the Dream of Astronautics!" and learned more about MUST from multiple perspectives.

During the Open Day, participants have experienced a varied range of campus tours, interactive activities, and exhibitions that combine entertainment with educational experiences, including Snake - Arduino Game Console Workshop, Portuguese Egg Tart Workshop, Coffee Making Workshops, Experience of Body Composition Analysis, Experience of Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), The Engraving Printing Experience Activity, Ceramics Practice Workshop, etc. Two state-level research platforms, the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine and the State Key Laboratory of Lunar and Planetary Sciences were opened to the public. And the unique Data Center for Science and Application of Macau Satellites, Teaching Laboratories for Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences and The Metal & Wood Art Design Lab were also open for visit, which enabled participants to gain an in-depth understanding of MUST’s focuses on developing features and research areas where the University has strength.

Participants who were interested in applying to MUST in the future visited the Student Association Carnival, and booths and Course Introductions of the Admission Office and School of Graduate Studies to learn more about faculty programs, admissions, applications, campus life, and other firsthand information.

The event was a complete success for the participants to fully experience the MUST's strong academic foundation and diverse talents. Looking ahead, MUST will continue to attach equal importance to teaching and research, attract talents from all fields, improve through excellent education and outstanding research, and serve the needs of Macao and the rapid development of the Motherland by fulfilling its mission.
