President Joseph Hun-wei LEE Leads Delegation on Visit to Chinese Medicine Guangdong Laboratory in Hengqin
On July 29, 2025, President Joseph Hun-wei LEE of Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) led a delegation to the Chinese Medicine Guangdong Laboratory in Hengqin for an exchange visit. The two parties held in-depth discussions on research collaboration, talent cultivation, and knowledge transfer in the field of Chinese medicine, aiming to promote the integration and high-quality development of the industry in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The delegation received a warm welcome from Academician Liu Liang, Director of the Chinese Medicine Guangdong Laboratory, and Prof. Zhou Hua, Deputy Director of the Chinese Medicine Guangdong Laboratory. President LEE’s delegation toured the laboratory’s exhibition hall and the I-D-E-A Platform, exploring the world’s first platform for Intelligentization, Digitalization, Engineering, and Automation in new Chinese medicine drug development, along with the laboratory’s notable technological achievements in Chinese medicine.

A signing ceremony followed, marking the agreement between the Chinese Medicine Guangdong Laboratory and MUST. Academician Liu and President LEE signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions. After the ceremony, Prof. Pan Hudan, Director of the Research and Development Department, introduced the laboratory’s vision, research team structure, and recent advancements in Chinese medicine research.

President LEE expressed his sincere gratitude for the laboratory's warm hospitality and the sharing of its achievements. He highlighted MUST’s extensive experience in Chinese medicine and interdisciplinary research, noting that the visit established a strong channel for institution collaboration and shared hopes that this partnership would enable close cooperation and promote the integration of Chinese medicine with cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, boosting the sector’s growth in the Greater Bay Area.

Academician Liu also expressed hopes for collaboration with MUST, particularly on integrating high-quality resources and establishing cooperative platforms. He emphasized the need to deepen cooperation in joint talent development, talent exchange, technological research and development, and the transformation of research outcomes. He envisioned this collaboration as a model for innovation and industrial synergy between Guangdong and Macao, advancement Chinese medicine’s development.
