MUST Successfully Hosts the 11th International Conference on Energy, Materials and Photonics (EMP25)

Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) successfully hosted the 11th International Conference on Energy, Materials and Photonics (EMP25) from August 8-10, 2025. This international conference was jointly organized by MUST, Southern University of Science and Technology, IEEE Nanotechnology Council Guangdong Chapter, and Society for Energy Photonics. The conference was co-chaired by Prof. Jianxin Tang from the Faculty of Innovation Engineering at MUST and Prof. Xiaowei Sun from Southern University of Science and Technology. As an international academic conference focusing on cutting-edge fields of energy, materials, and photonics, EMP25 aimed to promote exchanges and cooperation among global researchers and industry peers, and to share the latest research achievements and innovative technologies.

The conference featured multiple plenary lectures, keynote speeches, and parallel sessions, attracting experts, scholars, researchers, and industry representatives from around the world. Participants engaged in in-depth academic exchanges and discussions around three parallel session themes: Nano and Micro Materials and System, New generation of optoelectronics and microelectronics technology, and Colloidal Quantum Dot Materials and Devices for Display, injecting new wisdom and vitality into the development of related fields.

In the opening address, Chair Prof. Joseph Hun-wei Lee, Vice-Chancellor and President of MUST, extended a warm welcome to all scholars and distinguished guests present at the conference. He highlighted that MUST, founded in 2000, has evolved over 25 years into the largest comprehensive university in Macau with over 23,000 students. The university ranks among the world's top 300 universities in the 2025 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, top 500 in the 2025 QS World University Rankings, with 9 subjects entering the top 1% of ESI globally.

President Lee particularly emphasized MUST's important mission in the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. He stated that MUST is one of the two key Macao universities highlighted in the Guangdong-Macao-in-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, shouldering the historical mission of becoming "an important node of the GBA International Innovation and Technology Hub". The university houses multiple national research platforms, including the State Key Lab on Quality Research in Chinese Medicines, State Key Lab on Lunar & Planetary Sciences, and National Observation and Research Station of Coastal Ecological Environments in Macao, providing robust support for cutting-edge research.

The conference invited multiple distinguished experts in energy, materials, and photonics as plenary speakers. Prof. Xiao Wei Sun from Southern University of Science and Technology delivered a presentation on breakthrough applications of metasurface technology in AR applications. Prof. Yun Chi from City University of Hong Kong presented on "Iridium(III) Carbene Phosphors for Blue Organic Light Emitting Diodes", providing new insights for the development of organic light-emitting devices. Prof. Handong Sun from University of Macau delivered a presentation titled "Microlasers from Advanced Colloidal Semiconductor Nanostructures", providing in-depth analysis of cutting-edge developments in nano-laser technology. Prof. Qian Sun from Suzhou institute of Nano-Tech and Nano-Bionics (SINANO), Chinese Academy of Sciences focused on "GaN-on-Si Single-chip Full-color Micro-LED Display", showcasing the latest advances in micro-display technology. Prof. Xinge Yu from City University of Hong Kong, spoke on "Skin interfaced electronics for healthcare and VR/AR", demonstrating the broad prospects of flexible electronics technology in healthcare applications. The presentations by the plenary speakers covered various aspects from fundamental materials research to industrial applications, fully demonstrating the interdisciplinary characteristics and innovative vitality of the energy, materials, and photonics fields, providing valuable academic inspiration and technical insights for all participants.

During the conference, participating experts and scholars engaged in in-depth discussions on the development prospects of "Energy Photonics" around the major challenge of addressing global energy crisis and climate change facing humanity. Energy Photonics is dedicated to providing photonic solutions to energy problems, offering innovative technological support for combating global warming and climate change through interdisciplinary research in materials and photonics.

The successful hosting of the 11th International Conference on Energy, Materials and Photonics has established a high-level academic exchange platform for researchers worldwide in the fields of energy, materials, and photonics. Through multi-dimensional academic discussions and achievement presentations, the conference demonstrated current key technologies and future development trends in related fields.
