2026 Times Higher Education World University Rankings Released: MUST Excels in Research Innovation and Industry Transformation

On October 9, 2025, “Times Higher Education” (THE) announced the 2026 World University Rankings. Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) secured a position in the 251-300 range among 2,191 ranked universities worldwide, maintaining its place in the top 300, with significant improvements across multiple indicators.

In this year’s THE rankings, MUST showed progress in the dimensions of “Research Environment,” “Research Quality,” and “Industry.” The “Research Environment” dimension, which reflects the foundational conditions and atmosphere for research, has seen steady annual improvements, indicating increasingly abundant research resources and a vibrant innovation ecosystem at MUST. In the “Research Quality” dimension, which measures the level and impact of research outputs, several indicators have risen consistently over the past three years. This reflects MUST’s ongoing “structural upgrading” phase, characterized by stable mid-to-high-end research outputs, an increase in top-tier achievements, and enhanced depth in research value. The university’s competitiveness and leadership in research have strengthened, with significantly improved research quality stability. Additionally, the “Industry” dimension, which represents the transformation of research outcomes into industrial applications and contributions to socioeconomic development, has shown rapid growth for three consecutive years. This underscores the significant increase in the value of MUST’s research outcomes in supporting technological advancements in industry.
