MUST Bachelor of Science Programme Receives Professional Accreditation from the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) — Computer Science and Software Engineering Majors Granted Full Five-Year Accreditation

The Bachelor of Science programme in Computer Science and Software Engineering, offered by the School of Computer Science and Engineering within the Faculty of Innovation Engineering (FIE) at Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), has been granted full five-year accreditation by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE).

HKIE conducted an accreditation visit at MUST

This achievement marks the first time since the University's establishment that an undergraduate programme in engineering and information technology has received such recognition. It affirms that the programme's quality and graduate attributes meet the rigorous professional standards of one of the world's most respected engineering accreditation bodies.

HKIE, known for its stringent criteria, ensures accredited programmes align with international benchmarks for excellence. MUST's successful accreditation validates its curriculum design, teaching and assessment, faculty expertise, facilities, and student development as meeting world-class standards. This recognition reflects MUST's long-term strategic investment in information technology education and further strengthens its reputation as a leader in science and technology education across the region and beyond.

For students, the accreditation carries significant practical value. Those enrolled from the 2019 intake through the accreditation period will be eligible to apply for HKIE membership upon graduation, gaining a professional qualification recognized internationally. As HKIE-accredited Computer Science programmes are fully aligned with the Seoul Accord, graduates will enjoy substantial recognition across all signatory countries, opening doors to global career opportunities and providing a distinct advantage in professional engineering registration.

The Faculty of Innovation Engineering emphasized that this five-year full accreditation represents the highest affirmation of its commitment to educational excellence and student success. Looking ahead, FIE will continue to uphold the University's motto, "Dedication to Practical Studies, Enhancement of Knowledge, Ability and Quality", while remaining aligned with global technological and industrial trends. The Faculty is strengthening hands-on learning and industry engagement to ensure students gain both theoretical mastery and practical competencies demanded by today's technology sector. These initiatives aim to cultivate a new generation of technology leaders equipped with international perspectives, strong academic foundations, and outstanding practical capabilities.

This milestone also paves the way for deeper collaboration between FIE and international professional organizations, reinforcing Macao's strategic role in advancing the diversified development of high-tech industries.
