2026/2027 Academic Year Orientation for FIE Freshman

The Faculty of Innovation Engineering (FIE) at Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) held its Freshman Orientation Session for the 2026/2027 academic year on August 31, 2026, warmly welcoming the incoming cohort of undergraduate students. Hosted by Assistant Dean Yang Lei, the orientation was attended by faculty leadership, department representatives, and members of the Student’s Association, providing comprehensive guidance and support for new students as they launch their university journey.

The orientation commenced with an opening address by Prof. Qiao Sun, Dean of FIE. Dean Sun pointed out that the true value of engineering lies in benefiting humanity and cited modern engineering marvels like the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge as inspiration for new students to embrace their aspirations as future engineers. Emphasizing that FIE will provide a complete innovation-enabling environment and resources to support student growth and success, Dean Sun encouraged freshmen to explore boldly and innovate courageously over the next four years.

Next, Vice Dean Li Xiaodong introduced the importance of quality assurance and professional accreditation. He highlighted that the undergraduate programs in Computer Science and Software Engineering have been granted 5-year professional accreditation by The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) under the Seoul Accord. He added that FIE will continuously promote international accreditation for more majors to build high-standard learning environments for students.

Vice Dean Li Zhiwu encouraged students to participate in scientific research projects guided by professors to consolidate classroom knowledge. He noted that FIE provides platforms connecting students with professionals to help them learn how to solve real-world engineering problems. Students can also utilize laboratory and internship resources to enhance both hard and soft skills, laying a solid foundation for further studies and career development.

Assistant Dean Yang Lei introduced student conduct guidelines, the MUST mentorship program, and the FIE Student Consultant Committee. FIE also officially launched the "Student Hub" online platform, making it convenient for students to access academic guidelines, course selection details, and research updates.

In addition, representatives from the Culture and Sports Development Office introduced a variety of campus culture and sports activities to the freshmen. The orientation concluded with a presentation by Guo Haoxuan, President of the FIE Student’s Association, detailing the association's services, organizational structure, and upcoming activities.

Subsequently, School of Computer Science and Engineering, Department of Engineering Science, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, and Department of Space Science and Technology held respective briefing sessions to ensure freshmen are fully prepared for their arrival. This marks the official start of the new students' journey of innovative engineering at MUST for the 2026/2027 academic year.
