Sponsored by the Macao Education and Youth Development Council and organized by Macau University of Science and Technology, the Master Lecture 「Development of Organic Light Emitting Diodes Retrospection and Outlook」was successfully held at the Auditorium of Block D in the afternoon of December 5, 2023. The lecture was delivered by Academician Deng Qingyun, Honorary Doctor of Macao University of Science and Technology, Member of the National Academy of Engineering, Hong Kong Academy of Sciences and Founder of the Hong Kong Academy of Sciences. The President of Macau University of Science and Technology, Li Xingwei, welcomed and thanked Academician Deng Qingyun for his keynote speech. Afterwards, Director Li Shu Tang presented Academician Deng Qingyun with a souvenir and took a group photo together.

At the beginning of the lecture, Academician Deng Qingyun introduced the theme of the lecture with his former career in science research, and introduced us to the development of it. The academician then showed us a map of Hong Kong, which is inextricably linked to his research career. Each stage of Academician Tang Ching-wan's learning took place in the places indicated on this map, implying an essential life process - Academician Tang Ching-wan was born in 1947 in Yuen Long, and received his early education in the village ancestral hall of Tang's house. Then he received his Hong Kong secondary school education in the public school in Yuen Long and King's College, learning in the pyramid system. Immediately after, Academician Deng Qingyun introduced to us in detail the research of OLED, a kind of organic light-emitting semiconductor. The first two decades were spent in the development of materials for this organic substance - from the discovery to the publication, and ultimately to applications. Subsequently, Academician Deng Qingyun explained to us that we can see a lot of products made of LED in our life, such as indicators, billboards, etc. Then, Academician Deng Qingyun explained to us the difference between OLED and LED.
During the Q&A session, one of the students asked about the video resolution and the future development of vision technology. Academician Deng Qingyun explained that the higher the video resolution, the higher the quality of technology, static camera and dynamic video shooting is not the same, we need to continue to improve technology.
