FHTM launched “Dean for a Day” program and attracted many students’ applications. The finalist, Ms. Anny Xu Chi, a third-year undergraduate of BITM, was chosen to be the first “Dean for A Day” student.
Dean Xie met Anny at 9 am on April 15, 2016. After brief introductions, Anny has shadowed Dean to deal with administrative responsibilities, such as discussion of the faculty travels and daily paperwork processing. Dean Xie and Anny went to the ferry terminal to pick Associate Dean Brian King at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University as the speaker for the Academic Forum. Anny had the privilege to invite her friend to join lunch in the Seasons. A variety of issues have been discussed over lunch, such as student affairs, improvement for FHTM, and teaching effectiveness for students. During the seminar, Dean Xie asked Anny to introduce herself. After the talk by Professor King, Anny also joined the tea and coffee break along with faculty members and visitors from Taiwan University of Science and Technology. At the end of the day, Anny received the certification of completing the Dean for a Day.
Anny reflected that “a day for Dean was fleeting, but I have achieved a lot. By shadowing with our Dean, I learned to be a leader under different circumstances. I have overcome my shyness and gained confidence. I ascertain the meaning of a team player and motivate others to do more. I hope more and more students can participate in this event and being a luck person. I believe what I get is not just a pin of FHTM and a piece of certification, but the closer contact with our Dean and valuable experience”.
