“I am the Chef”—the third culinary competition organized by FHTM of MUST, was held on January 28, 2018. In this competition, Culinary Art major students Arthur Wong & Eric Liu won the championship. Together with Calvin Lam, the three students participated in the Culinary Challenge 2018 at Seoul Food and Hotel in Korea and won prizes.
After three-month intensive training by instructors Ms. Georginia Tang and Ms. Mary Ote, students headed to Seoul for the Seoul Food & Hotel Culinary Challenge 2018 on April 30, together with instructor Mr. Felipe Hempe. Calvin Lam, a sophomore student of Culinary Arts major, obtained the third place of Hot Appetizer on May 1. The hot appetizer he presented was “Seared Scallops with Kaffir, lime and spinach purée passion fruit fluid gel and glazed elfin rainbow carrots”. Arthur Wong and Eric Liu, senior students of Culinary Arts major, won the first place of International Team Cook Off on May 4 and they also received the Special Judge Award. The appetizer they presented was “Prawn and seafood consommé terrine with kimchi red pepper jelly and spinach and Kombu mousse” and the main course was “Slow-cooked Korean beef with seasonal local vegetables and the demi-glace sauce”. To the students, this is a valuable opportunity to combine knowledge and practice and to demonstrate their culinary skills. The faculty is truly proud of them, sincerely congratulating them on what they have achieved and hopeful about what they will achieve in the future.
