As a way to give back to the Community as well as enhance social responsibility, the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management (FHTM) organized “Bread for the Elders” event, as part of the celebration of MUST’s 19th Anniversary. It has been the second year in a row for FHTM to hold such an event.
On the morning of February 23, students and staff of FHTM, under the guidance of Culinary Art Instructor Miss Mary Judalee Pestano Ote, made 80 packs of bread and faculty staff also prepared over 40 care packages filled with daily necessities for the elders. Then in the afternoon, a group of volunteers including teachers Dr. Wong Weng Chou, Dr. Lee Young Hee, Mr. Kwok Wing Cheong, Mr. Chen Kuan Ting, and Miss Kan Yean Phinn, students and staff, led by FHTM Vice Dean (Administration) Amy Chu visited the elderly home Asilo De Benatnia. During the visit, each elder received freshly made breads and a care package. Students from the Arts Troupe of MUST gave performance for the elderly. Student Yao Yuanbo played Cucurbit flute, student Du Sicheng played Cello and student Lu Xinyi played Zhongruan (Chinese moon guitar). Then the elders and volunteers sang a famous pop song “Cherie” together, played some fun activities and had a great time.
MUST has been devoted to cultivating talents with all-round development, and consistently making outstanding contributions to the development of Macao higher education. Although it was a one-day event, volunteers felt whole-heartily the significance of this event when seeing the smiling faces of the elders. FHTM hoped that this event would encourage more students to do good deeds, be kind, care for the weak and give elders some spiritual comfort.
