In July 2021, Macau University of Science and Technology and Toyo University in Japan successfully held the first joint academic conference. The theme of the conference was Integrated Resort Research, led by Professor Goh Kok Beng, (Dean of Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management), Professor Timothy Lee, Associate Professor Jose Weng Chou Wong, and PhD students of the college attended this meeting. Due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, the meeting was held online. This conference was jointly and organized by the two universities to promote exchanges and cooperation between experts and scholars in the fields of hotels, resorts and tourism, share resort academic research and management practical experience, and provide a platform for graduate students to share research results and experience. At the beginning of the conference, Professor Goh Kok Beng gave a speech for the conference, and expressed his sincere appreciation to the teachers and students of Toyo University in Japan and Macau University of Science and Technology.
The Topic of the Seminar
Professor Timothy Lee and Associate Professor Jose Weng Chou Wong gave the keynote speeches on "Australians’ Gambling Problem Prevention, Policy and Activities" and "The development and trend of Integrated Resort in Macau", respectively. The speeches outlined the status of the gaming industry in Australia and the development of Macau's integrated resorts. Combined with the industry direction in the post-epidemic era, two professors successively put forward constructive practical suggestions. In addition, doctoral students Wang Shan and Xie Dengming also briefly reported their recent research: "New normal: the impact of COVID-19 on tourism industry" and "Experience in conducting the first English journal paper: Form a graduate student's perspective".
The Participants of the Seminar
This joint conference is the concrete practice of the international education goal of FHTM, and the practical support for improving the quality of education and scientific research and development. FHTM will continue to contribute to the development of tourism education and training in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
