In order to improve the Cantonese proficiency of FHTM students and their competitiveness in both internship and future career, the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management (FHTM) of Macau University of Science and Technology and FHTM Students Consultative Committee successfully held the first session of “Cantonese Corner” in the Food Studio on February 22, 2022. Dean Ben K. Goh gave the opening speech encouraging the FHTM students to learn more languages for more career possibilities. Prof. Jose Wong, Program Director was invited as the main speaker of the first class “Cantonese Corner” with the assistance of Dr. Michael Lai, FHTM administrative staff and Graduate Volunteers.
Students Learned Cantonese
Prof. Jose Wong interspersed the linguistic points with daily conversations and encouraged students to communicate with him. The class bloomed with joy and good fellowship. After the course, students regarded it as a novel teaching approach, which not only met new friends in the process of language learning, but also could better adapt to the unique life in Macao. It has also laid a solid foundation for their future internship. All the participants are looking forward to the next “Cantonese Corner”.
