M.U.S.T. Faculty of Law Celebrates Chinese New Year and Explores Chinese Traditional Culture

 Macau University of Science and Technology (M.U.S.T.) Faculty of Law kicked off the year with a special Chinese New Year event titled "Face-to-Face with Mentors" on February 1, 2024. The event took place at the university's comprehensive building, Building R, in a classroom. Led by Dean Fang Quan, faculty and students came together to celebrate the new year by engaging in the art of calligraphy, discussing their plans for the upcoming year, experiencing traditional Chinese New Year customs, and immersing themselves in the festive atmosphere. The event was organized by the Faculty of Law, co-hosted by the M.U.S.T. Faculty of Law Student Union, and sponsored by the M.U.S.T. Foundation.

The event was hosted by Xie Geng Liang, the Program Director of the Faculty of Law. In attendance were Dean Fang Quan, Program Directors Bi Jing Wei, Mou Xiao Bo, and Professor Cao Xia, Associate Professor Shen Yun Qiao, Assistant Professors Peng Yun Peng, Dai Meng Liang, Xue Wen Chao, Wang Jia, Zhou Qin, Chen Qin, Liao Si, and Man Tao, as well as mentors from the Student Affairs Office, Hao Chi Wan and Zhong Mei Qi. The event attracted the participation of nearly a hundred students from the Faculty of Law.

Faculty and students of the Faculty of Law gathered together to celebrate the Chinese New Year

 

First, Teacher Xie Geng Liang introduced the attending teachers and the content of the event. Accompanied by melodic New Year music, the faculty and students eagerly approached the calligraphy station to create their own auspicious phrases and blessings for the new year. The event also included a lucky draw segment, adding to the festive atmosphere for the faculty and students. Traditional New Year delicacies, such as dumplings, were prepared for everyone to enjoy, symbolizing the transition from the old year to the new and wishing for a fresh start and renewal in the Faculty of Law for the upcoming year.

During the event, Teacher Xie Geng Liang also provided information about opportunities for students to study abroad at the Faculty of Law of the University of Augsburg in Germany, as well as how to apply for alumni scholarships and external scholarships. Dean Fang Quan presented spring couplets with the message: Expressing the aspiration of Macau as a place where the spiritual energy between heaven and earth converges, the M.U.S.T. Faculty of Law holds the noble wish of upholding virtue, maintaining tradition, and producing talented individuals for generations to come.

New Year's Greetings from Dean Fang Quan

 

The students expressed their joy in participating in this event, and the calligraphy couplets and "Fú" characters they created symbolized their New Year's wishes and blessings. While practicing calligraphy, the students engaged in deep discussions and freely sought advice from the professors. The event also fostered a warm and lively atmosphere as students from different grades exchanged their calligraphy couplets and passed on New Year's blessings to each other. It was a heartwarming and joyful occasion.

Event Highlights

 

The Faculty of Law combined "Tea Gathering" and the university's mentorship program to establish the "Face-to-Face with My Mentor" workshop, aiming to create a platform outside the classroom for relaxed communication between mentors and students. As a supplement to classroom teaching, the workshop not only enhances communication between mentors and students but also helps students achieve good growth and comprehensive development. The workshop takes on various forms, such as book clubs, seminars, career planning, and academic guidance, catering to the needs of students and mentors, and assisting students in their personal and academic development.
