Student from School of Business of M.U.S.T. Won the 2nd Prize
at the 21st “21st Century - Coca-Cola cup” National English Speaking Competition

Lu Yihan, sophomore of School of Business, M.U.S.T., won the 2nd prize at the 21st “21st Century - Coca-Cola cup” National English Speaking Competition, which was held in Beijing earlier in March.

The “21st Century Coca-Cola cup” National English Speaking Competition was launched by the China Daily in 1996; after twenty years’ development, the Competition has been recognized as the highest level English competition in China, and has been regarded as a grand annual event by the Chinese English teaching community.The national competition usually starts in May every year and ends in March of the following year. It is comprised of several stages: screening interviews on the Internet, campus-wide selections, speaking tests on the phone, and regional finals. Out of the hundreds of thousands contestants from around 1,000 higher institutions of the mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macau, 66 regional winners are selected to enter the national final. The Competition invites top-level experts from well-known international English teaching organizations, media organizations, foreign embassies in China, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and renowned national and international universities, to be the judges for the Competition. Over a million people participated and attended the competition.

At this year’s competition, the 66 contestants who entered the national final were the top 3 winners of each of the mainland Chinese provinces, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, as well as overseas regions such as South Korea and Thailand. The intense competition consists of three rounds: prepared speech, impromptus speech, and the Q&A session. Lu Yihan, sophomore of the School of Business, won the 2nd prize at the national final, representing Macau with her fluent English, standard pronunciation, elegant stage presence, agile mind and excellent organizational skills. Her good performance also bears testimony to the achievements of the general education program of M.U.S.T.. Her tutor, Mr. Lei Kai Cheong, has also won the 2nd prize in the Best Tutor Awards.
