M.U.S.T. Unveiled Macau Smart City Institute and Macau Smart City Conference for Promotion of Sustainable Smart City Development in Macau

Organized by Macau University of Science and Technology, co-organized by TongFang Technovator International Limited (Beijing), and sponsored by Macao Foundation, the “Ceremony for Plaque-Unveiling of the Macau Smart City Institute and Opening of the Macau Smart City Conference” was held at auditorium N101 of M.U.S.T. in the morning of September 26, 2016.

The Ceremony had the pleasure to invite Deputy Director Yao Jian of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau S.A.R., Chairman Ma Chi Ngai of Macao Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT), Vice Chairman Zhong Yi of the Administrative Committee of the Macao Foundation, Acting Director Sílvia Ribeiro Osório Ho of Macao Tertiary Education Services Office (GAES), Divison Head Lai Kin Ho of the Transport Facilities Division of the Macau Transport Bureau, Chancellor Liu Chak Wan of M.U.S.T., Chairman Zhou Li Gao of the University Council of M.U.S.T., and President Liu Liang of M.U.S.T. to cut the ribbons for the Opening Ceremony of the Macau Smart City Conference. The University specially invited Deputy Director Yao Jian, Chairman Ma Chi Ngai, Chancellor Liu Chak Wan, and President Liu Liang to unveil the plaque of the Macau Smart City Institute. The Institute is a new installment of M.U.S.T., which aims to reinforce research and industrialization of smart city, mainly taking up development of key technologies, applied research, public platform research and services, talents training, and other work in relation to common problems of smart city, in the hope of moving forward smart city research and application in Macau.

President Liu Liang addressed the ceremony and noted that it was clearly identified in the Five-Year Development Plan of the Macau S.A.R. Government, which was released in earlier April, that Macau would speed up its smart city development; as such, Macau University of Science and Technology responded quickly and aligned itself with the work priorities of the S.A.R. government by unifying and integrating the personnel and academic resources of the relevant faculties of the University to establish the “Macau Smart City Institute”, aiming to construct the most top-end academic and technological platform to assist the S.A.R. government in achieving its goal of smart city development, and supply excellent talents and intellectual resources; such movements agree with the urgent needs of the Macau society for further development, and therefore are of great practical significances.

Chairman Ma Chi Ngai also delivered a speech; he addressed that M.U.S.T. attached great importance to characteristics and priorities in development of research, and simultaneously paid close attention to the development of the key research projects of Macau, as was evidenced by its swift action in founding the Macau Smart City Institute for smart city research has been a key area for development of characteristic research in recent years. The FDCT hopes that the Macau Smart City Institute established by M.U.S.T. will not only empower research, education, and industrialization of smart city, but also move forward research and application of smart city in Macau.

During the Opening Ceremony, under the witness of Deputy Director Yao Jian, Chairman Ma Chi Ngai, Chancellor Liu Chak Wan, and Executive Board Director Xie Han Liang of TongFang Technovator International Limited, Macau Smart City Institute, M.U.S.T. and representative of TongFang Technovator International Limited (Macau) signed “strategic framework agreement on integrated research of city-level energy conservation and smart city management system”; the two parties expect to join hands in promoting technological innovation and application for the area of energy conservation and environmental protection, and make available new platforms for synergy of industry, education, and research.

Afterwards, the Macau Smart City Conference ensued and opened. At the conference, Mr. Xu Zhen Xi, Deputy General Manager of the TongFang Technovator International Limited (Beijing) shared his insights on “Integrated Systemization of Smart Management and City-level Energy Consumption, and Development Trends of Energy Conservation”; renowned professors from prominent national universities such as Peking University and Fudan University, together with professionals from the industry, discussed common problems of smart city and development directions of Macau’s smart city development, and presented analyses regarding the problems and obstacles facing Macau in its engagements of developing smart city. It is hoped that the conference enables the government, the education community, and the industry to work together more closely, jointly promote development of smart city in Macau, fuel the integration of the industry and the Internet, and accelerate the development and application of information technology in Macau. The event had gained great support from the Macau Property Evaluation Association, King Honor International Design Consultancy Limited, Singou Limited (Macau), Xinxin Technology Limited, Ming Shun Construction & Property Investment Ltd, Huarchi Global Construction Corporation Limited, Hualue Construction Design Co. Limited, and the Civil Engineering Association (Macau), China Huaqiao University.
