MUST scholar’s paper published on IEEE top-tier journal

Dr. Feng Li, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Information Technology (FI) from Macau University of Science and Technology, recently published an academic paper in IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics. Dr Li is the first author and corresponding author, and is coauthored with her Ph.D. student Yang Jie. IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, whose latest impact factor is 7.168, is a top-tier international journal, ranking 1st among 60 SCI journals in the area of Automation & Control Systems and ranking 12th among 262 SCI journals in the area of Engineering, Electrical & Electronic.

Dr. Feng has been working in the area of energy-efficient wireless networks. In this paper, Dr. Feng and her student study the state-of-the-art physical-layer-assisted power-management (PA-PM), and are the first to propose a novel queueing model to study the packet delay andthe power consumption for a polling scheme, a request/response-based communication scheme, with PA-PM. The model can minimize a station’s power consumption while meeting its delay requirement. This study greatly promotes the applicability of PA-PM, and of great significance in engineering applications, such as wireless sensor networks and Internet of Things. In addition, the proposed queuing model could be used for analyzing the performance of a broad class of polling schemes. Dr. Feng’s academic achievements have made remarkable progress in the area of energy-efficient wireless networks and have great potential for future research and development.

This study is the outputs of a part of research “Performance Analysis and Design of Energy-Efficient Polling Schemes in Wireless LANs”, hosted by Dr. Feng and funded by the Macao FDCT project. It is also inspired by a prior work, “A new delay analysis for IEEE802.11 PCF”, which was coauthored by Dr. Feng and her Ph.D. supervisor Professor Li Jianqing (FI), and was published in IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology.
