MUST successfully hosted Times Higher Education Asia universities summit 2025 Leading Asia Higher Education Fostering Collaborative Exchanges

“Times Higher Education Asia universities summit 2025” was successfully held at Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST). The summit conclude with a cumulative count of 6,000 participants, consisting of leaders, senior managers and decision makers from higher education institutions around the world. Title as “Asia's rise: A transformative journey in science, technology and innovation”, the summit explored Asia's ascent as a leading hub for innovation in science, technology, society and research. It highlighted the pivotal role played by prominent institutions in fostering a strong research culture across the region.

Over the three-day summit, participants discussed over the significant advancements in science and technology aspect achieved by Asian universities and institutions, underscoring the critical importance of sustained investment in order to strengthen competitive advantages. Discussions encouraged deepening tripartite collaboration among universities, industry, and governments to address global challenges. In future-oriented discussions, it highlighted sustainable development and smart city initiatives, emphasizing the need to balance economic growth with environmental stewardship. In sessions regarding to cultural heritage, attendees proposed leveraging technology to empower the preservation of traditional cultures and integrating ancestral knowledge with modern innovation. Gender equality in technology fields were also mentioned in the discussions inclusive policies were recommended to close the gender gaps and actively support women's advancement. A series of networking sessions were held to further enabled participants to forge meaningful connections, fostering cross-institutional engagement and strengthening collaborative networks across the region.

Vice President of MUST, Dr. Tong Ka Lok delivered closing speech

Vice President of MUST Dr. Tong Ka Lok expressed “To sustain the momentum from this summit, we will keep up with the collaboration with participants in order to facilitate ongoing dialogue, transforming the summit’s vision into a lasting impact, ensuring Asia’s universities lead in innovation, collaboration, and sustainable development for years to come. s we bring this summit to a close, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to all the speakers, participants, and organizers who have made this event a success. This is  not only informed but also ignited a collective passion for innovation and excellence, every contribution has enriched our understanding and broadened our horizons.”

Chief Global Affairs Officer at THE, Mr. Phil Baty said in his closing speech “We would like to thank MSUT for hosting such an inspirational gathering of thought leaders from across the diverse Asian continent. Our first ever summit in Macau was a great success – highlighting the Macao SAR’s rapidly developing role as a global hub for higher education and entrepreneurship and its vital role as part of the phenomenally successful innovation-led economic development project across the Greater Bay Area. The event addressed a vast array of strategic questions for university leaders across a booming higher education sector, from how AI is re-shaping teaching and research to the shifting mobility of talent and the geopolitics of knowledge. But one overarching theme prevailed: Asia is rising quickly as a global higher education superpower and the centre of gravity is shifting from West to East.” 

At the end of closing ceremony, THE also announced the upcoming summit will be hosted by Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, advancing the momentum of higher education development across Asia.
