MUST FIE Delegation Visits São Carlos School of Engineering, University of São Paulo
The delegation from the Faculty of Innovation Engineering (FIE) of Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) conducted an institutional visit to the São Carlos School of Engineering (EESC) of the University of São Paulo (USP) on 28 July 2026. The visit aimed to strengthen academic ties, explore research collaboration opportunities, exchange insights in engineering, innovation and related scientific fields, and advance discussions toward the extension and deepening of cooperation between FIE and EESC, including the existing MOU and a proposed fast-track dual Master’s degree programme.

The FIE delegation was led by Prof. Qiao Sun, Dean of FIE, and included Prof. Xiao Dong Li, Vice Dean of FIE, and Prof. Chi Tin Hon from the Department of Engineering Science. The delegation was received by Prof. Fernando Martini Catalano, Dean of the São Carlos School of Engineering; Prof. Glauco Augusto de Paula Caurin, Head of the Aeronautical Engineering Department; Prof. Adriano Defini Andricopulo, Dean of the São Carlos Institute of Physics; Prof. Daniel Rodrigues Cardoso, Dean of the São Carlos Institute of Chemistry; Prof. Laís Canniatti Brazaca, President of the National and International Cooperation Commission; Prof. Stanislau Bogusz Junior, Vice President of the National and International Cooperation Commission; and other representatives from EESC, the São Carlos Institute of Physics (IFSC) and the São Carlos Institute of Chemistry (IQSC).

During the visit, the delegation conducted separate meetings with the Department of Aeronautical Engineering, University of São Paulo Innovation Center (InovaUSP), USP Innovation Agency (AUSPIN), Center for Research in Optics and Photonics (CEPOF) and Center for Robotics (CRob). In the meetings, the respective parties presented an overview of their institutions and main research focus areas. The FIE side also shared the Faculty’s strategic priorities and research strengths. Discussions focused on complementary capabilities, ongoing joint grant applications, and concrete initiatives including a parallel education programme, student exchange, and the fast-track dual Master’s degree agreement.

The delegation also visited IFSC and IQSC, as well as other laboratories and facilities including wind tunnels and fan-rig facilities, Aerotech and simulators, aeroelasticity and composites laboratories, and Aerotech activities involving drones, robots and flight simulators.

The visit provided a valuable platform for exchanging knowledge on engineering research, laboratory capabilities, innovation ecosystems and concrete pathways for future academic and research collaboration. FIE looks forward to advancing the extension and deepening of cooperation with EESC/USP in innovation engineering, aeronautical engineering, materials science, and related disciplines.
