Feng Jicai, Doctor of Letters honoris causa

Prof. Feng Jicai, male, Han ethnicity, born in February 1942 in Tianjin, ancestral home in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province. Member of the China Association for Promoting Democracy, a renowned contemporary writer, painter, and cultural scholar. He currently serves as Honorary Member of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Honorary Chairman of the Chinese Folk Literature and Art Association, Dean, Professor, and Doctoral Supervisor of the Feng Jicai Institute of Literature and Art at Tianjin University, as well as Chair of the Expert Committee for the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List, Director of the China Traditional Village Protection Expert Committee, and other academic leadership roles.

Prof. Feng Jicai has previously held positions including Counselor of the State Council, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the China Association for Promoting Democracy, Vice Chairman of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Chairman of the Chinese Folk Literature and Art Association, Member of the 6th to 12th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) (Standing Committee Member of the 9th to 12th), Deputy Director of the CPPCC Committee on Culture, History, and Learning, Chairman of the Tianjin Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and many other important social and political roles.

In his professional career, Prof. Feng Jicai has had a rich and diverse experience. In his early years, he served on the Tianjin Men's Basketball Team from 1961 to 1962. He then shifted to the arts, engaging in painting work at the Tianjin Heping Painting and Calligraphy Society from 1962 to 1974, and continued his painting creation in the Chinese Painting Group at the Tianjin Arts and Crafts Factory from 1974 to 1975. Starting in 1975, he moved to an educational position, teaching at the Tianjin Arts and Crafts Workers’ University. From 1977, after joining the Creative and Commentary Office of the Tianjin Cultural Bureau as a creator, he formally began his literary and artistic career. From 1979 to 1988, he served as a professional writer and Vice Chairman of the Tianjin Branch of the China Writers Association. From 1988 onward, he long served as Chairman of the Tianjin Federation of Literary and Art Circles until 2013; concurrently, from 1988 to 2017, he was Vice Chairman of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles; and from 2001 to 2016, he served as Chairman of the Chinese Folk Literature and Art Association. Since 2005, he has been appointed as Dean and Professor of the Feng Jicai Institute of Literature and Art at Tianjin University, dedicating himself to cultural research and education.
