Chen Shiyi, Doctor of Engineering honoris causa

Professor Chen Shiyi, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), and an internationally renowned expert in mechanics and physics. Currently serves as President of Eastern Institute of Technology, Ningbo.
Prof. Chen was among the first scholars from mainland China elected as a Fellow of the American Physical Society after China's reform and opening-up policy. He was also selected as one of the “40 Influential Returnees in 40 Years of Reform and Opening-up.” He has made outstanding achievements in turbulence theory, computational fluid dynamics, and industrial software, and is one of the founders of the international lattice Boltzmann method.
Prof. Chen graduated from the Department of Mechanics at Zhejiang University in 1981 and pursued advanced studies at the Department of Mechanics and Engineering Science at Peking University, earning his master's and doctoral degrees there. He previously served as tenured professor and Chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University (USA), Founding Dean of the College of Engineering at Peking University, and Vice President as well as Dean of the Graduate School at Peking University. In 2015, he assumed the presidency of Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), successfully guiding it into China's “Double First-Class” university initiative with remarkable accomplishments. In 2021, he was invited back to Zhejiang to lead the planning and establishment of Eastern Institute of Technology, Ningbo, where he currently serves as President.
His research areas include turbulence theory. large eddy simulation and subgrid-scale modeling, direct numerical simulation, industrial applications of turbulence research, multiphase flow and combustion physics, multiscale dynamic systems and multiscale computational methods and industrial software.
