M.U.S.T. Vice-President Chair Professor Tam Kwong Hang visited the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford

On June 30 and July 1, 2023, Vice-President Chair Professor Tam Kwong Hang of Macau University of Science and Technology visited the President of Queens’ College, University of Cambridge, Dr Mohamed A. El-Erian, and met with the 2020 Bachelor of Laws Graduate, Jiawei Zhang, a "Dr. Liu Chak Wan Scholarship" recipient, at the University of Oxford.

Dr. El-Erian was shown the latest introductory video of M.U.S.T. which highlighted the recent development of the University concerning the restructuring of the Faculty of Innovation Engineering (FIE) and the Medical Sciences Division (MSD), the progress of interdisciplinary teaching and research, the rise of the University’s ranking, and, especially, the milestone of the successful launch of the Macao Science 1 satellite with the participation of the State Key Laboratory of Lunar and Planetary Sciences in May. Chair Professor Tam warmly invited President El-Erian to visit M.U.S.T. to strengthen future cooperation between the two universities. President Mohamed congratulated M.U.S.T. on its rapid development in recent years and expressed hope that Queens’ College and M.U.S.T. could initiate more cooperation in student education and strengthen research collaboration in the future.

The following day Chair Professor Tam visited Oxford University to meet with the recipient of the "Dr. Liu Chak Wan Scholarship" student Jiawei Zhang (Faculty of Law 2020). Scholar Jiawei Zhang was commissioned by the President of Wolfson College, Oxford University to show Chair Professor Tam the College, who was left deeply impressed by the scholastic environment of the College after touring Zhang Jiawei's dormitory and place of work, the well-stocked library, and the comfortable common room where students mingle. At the lunch meeting following the visit, Zhang Jiawei sincerely thanked Dr. Liu Chak Wan, Chancellor of M.U.S.T., for the generous support and told Vice-President Tam about his studies at Wolfson College, including the publication of his first paper in a top-ranked journal of his field. He attributed his academic progress to the outstanding education he received at M. U.S. T. Chair Professor Tam congratulated Zhang on his achievements during his studies at Oxford and encouraged him to continue to work hard, maintain M.U.S.T. motto of "Dedication to practical studies, Enhancement of knowledge, Ability and Quality", be an example for M.U.S.T. students, and eventually return to his alma mater to share his experiences with students and contribute to the development of the country.

During his visit to the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford on behalf of Macao University of Science and Technology, Vice-President Tam Kwong Hang hoped to help top universities gain a broader understanding of M.U.S.T., strive for closer cooperation, improve the University's internationalization strategy, and encourage more M.U.S.T. students to take advantage of the University's valuable opportunities, to develop an international perspective, and to instill the spirit of the University, so as to become future talents for the society and the country.
