MUST-MSD Delegation Visits Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University for High-Level Medical Academic Exchange

On June 5, 2026, a delegation from Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), led by Vice-President Paul Kwong-Hang Tam and Vice-President Zhu Yi Zhun, visited Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University, for high-level academic exchange and discussions on future collaboration. The delegation also included Professor Yan Chen and Assistant Professor Bo Li from the Faculty of Medicine.

Zhongshan Hospital, a leading National Medical Center construction unit and one of China’s top comprehensive research hospitals, has strong capabilities in major disease diagnosis and treatment, clinical research, medical education, and translational medicine. The MUST delegation toured the hospital campus and clinical research platforms, gaining insight into the hospital’s development in the National Medical Center construction, research platform development, and multidisciplinary innovation. During the meeting, both sides discussed regenerative medicine, inflammation and immunology, innovative drug discovery, clinical research, talent development, and collaboration mechanisms. 

Professor Paul Kwong-Hang Tam provided an overview of MUST’s history, academic development, and recent progress in medical education and scientific innovation. He emphasized the University’s commitment to talent training, international education, and research platform development, noting that MUST has strengthened its strategic focus on precision regenerative medicine and translational research through the coordinated development of Macao and Hengqin. Professor Zhu Yi Zhun introduced MUST’s research foundation and platform strengths in pharmacy, inflammation and immunology, innovative drug discovery, and clinical translation.

Both sides agreed that MUST and Zhongshan Hospital share a strong foundation for collaboration in medical research, clinical translation, drug development, talent training, and multidisciplinary cooperation. Moving forward, they will leverage their respective strengths in basic research, clinical resources, translational platforms, and international talent development to establish closer collaborative mechanisms.

In the afternoon, the delegation attended the 64th Clinical Research Academic Salon of Zhongshan Hospital. Professor Paul Kwong-Hang Tam delivered an invited lecture entitled “Liver Regenerative Medicine,” presenting recent advances in clinical applications in regenerative medicine. Professor Zhu Yi Zhun delivered an invited lecture entitled “Discovery and Clinical Translation of Innovative Drugs for Inflammation and Immunology,” focusing on novel drug discovery, mechanisms of action, drug development, and clinical translation pathways for inflammation- and immunology-related diseases. Both lectures stimulated active discussion experts and created a lively academic atmosphere.

This visit further strengthened ties between MUST and Zhongshan Hospital, laying a solid foundation for future collaboration in regenerative medicine, inflammation and immunology, innovative drug discovery, clinical research, and translational medicine. Both institutions will continue to promote joint projects, academic exchange, talent development, and translational research, advancing integration between basic research and clinical practice.
