For the academic year of 2025/2026, Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) has announced the list of recipients of the Teaching Achievement Award. The second prize winners are Professor Zhao Xi from the Faculty of Humanities and Arts, and the team from the University International College, comprising Associate Professor Hu Bo, Associate Professor Song Haoyan, Associate Professor Wang Ting, Associate Professor Wei Huiping, Assistant Professor Zhang Jing, and Assistant Professor You Shuxiang, in recognition of their outstanding performance in teaching achievements.

Professor Zhao Xi of the Faculty of Humanities and Arts was awarded the Second Prize for her project Practice-Based Pedagogy for Talent Cultivation: Practical Teaching Empowering Talent Cultivation --Documentary Works Serve Macao’s Needs, Teaching Innovation achievement of Documentary Creation Practical Courses. This teaching outcome, refined over 14 years of instructional practice, is rooted in the curriculum reform of documentary‑image courses. It explores an educational model featuring local Macao characteristics, cutting‑edge industry relevance and replicable promotion value. 

The curriculum reform addresses long-standing challenges in film and television education: the separation of theory from practice, the detachment of classroom teaching from real social contexts, and content lagging behind industry developments. Guided by the educational philosophy of “nurturing the mind through the lens and conveying values through images,” the course has established a three-in-one teaching framework of “core theory + Macao-themed topics + international perspectives,” redefining the logic of talent cultivation in documentary courses.

Drawing on dual academic and industry resources, the curriculum team has built a teaching framework integrating core theories, Macao‑themed special topics and international perspectives. Real‑world major creation projects are brought into classrooms, enabling students to go through the complete industrial workflow including topic research, on‑site shooting and post‑production. This builds a practical training path that transforms class assignments into socially valuable visual outputs.

Over the 14‑year practice, students’original documentary productions have received nearly thirty international, national and provincial‑ministerial‑level awards. Multiple student‑produced Macao‑themed works have been disseminated via domestic and overseas media platforms, realizing dual goals of professional competence development and cultural‑narrative communication.

Professor Zhao Xi noted that this honour stems from the university’s supportive educational environment and joint efforts of teachers and student teams. Moving forward, the curriculum team will further advance reforms in digital documentary practical teaching, promote cross‑border collaborative teaching with universities and industry organisations worldwide, and guide young learners to engage with real‑life contexts. Through visual storytelling, they will share stories of Macao and China, and keep making contributions to the development of film‑and‑television disciplines and the cultivation of cross‑cultural visual‑communication talents.

The teaching achievement project “Rooted in Macao, Global in Outlook: Developing and Implementing a Cross-Linguistic and Intercultural Training System for High-Calibre Professionals in International Chinese Language Education,” submitted by the Doctor of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language Program team of the University International College, MUST has been awarded the Second Prize in the Teaching Achievement Award for the 2025/2026 Academic Year. 

Rooted in Macao’s unique triliterate and quadrilingual environment, the project responds to the needs of Chinese language education worldwide. Centered on student development, guided by teaching-research integration, supported by authentic practice settings, and oriented towards tangible outcomes, it has developed a comprehensive doctoral training system in international Chinese language education. Guided by a competence-based framework, the program integrates cyclical teaching-research training, support from a high-level academic community, and local and overseas practice platforms, promoting the coordinated development of doctoral students’ theoretical knowledge, research competence, teaching ability, and competence in international communication.

Since the launch of the program, doctoral students have published more than 50 papers in core journals indexed in SCI, SSCI, AHCI, CSSCI, and other major databases, received more than 20 awards in national and international academic competitions, and participated in over 30 research projects. The program’s teaching practicum network now covers more than 20 countries and regions. Together, these achievements demonstrate a training model that is sustainable, traceable, assessable, and verifiable.

The award-winning team comprises Associate Professor Wang Ting, Associate Professor Song Haoyan, Associate Professor Hu Bo, Associate Professor Wei Huiping, Assistant Professor Zhang Jing, and Assistant Professor You Shuxiang. With diverse professional backgrounds, the team embodies the project’s cross-linguistic, intercultural, and interdisciplinary approach to collaborative talent development. Looking ahead, the team will continue to refine the training system, deepen the integration of artificial intelligence into talent development, and further enhance the quality and international impact of talent development.

In order to further implement the university’s teaching and learning development strategy and improve the quality and effectiveness of teaching, Macau University of Science and Technology has set up the “University Teaching Achievement Award” at the university level since the 2019-2020 academic year. The Award is presented on a biennial basis and aims to recognize teachers and teaching teams who have made outstanding achievements in reforming the talent cultivation mechanisms, teaching team construction, optimizing teaching/discipline system construction, improving teaching methods, updating teaching materials, ensuring teaching quality, and strengthening practical education, so as to promote the continuous innovation and high-quality development of university teaching activities.
