The Industry-Education-Research Demonstration Bases of Macau University of Science and Technology and the University of Macau were inaugurated in Hengqin. The state key laboratories of the two universities will also set up branches in Hengqin. The Plaque-Unveiling Ceremony for the demonstration bases were held in the Creative Valley, Hengqin, in the afternoon of December 17, 2019.

Deputy Mayor Yan Wu gave a speech
Deputy Mayor of Zhuhai Mr. Yan Wu gave a speech. He affirmed that Zhuhai and Macao have been engaging in close cooperation and industrial collaboration that has led to observable effects. It is believed that with the establishment of the industry-education-research demonstration bases of M.U.S.T. and the Umac in the Hengqin New District, efforts could be made to explore the fields and disciplines where Macao universities are playing leading roles, seek research collaboration, and move forward industrial transformation and upgrade of Macao and the city clusters in the Greater Bay Area.
Mr. Cheang Kun Wai delivered a speech
Mr. Cheang Kun Wai, Member of the Administrative Committee of the Macao Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT), also delivered a speech. He said that since the establishment of the FDCT, it has been making proactive efforts to enable development of science and technology in Macao. As one of the main drivers of Macao science and technology research, the FDCT will continue to spare no efforts in giving support to develop high-standard science and research platforms, implement significant science and technology projects, reinforce support to various professional talents, advance technological transfer and industry-education-research collaboration, fully implement the development policy of “Letting Macao thrive through education, and Building Macao with talent” stated by the Macao S.A.R. Government, and expedite growth of science and innovation in Macao. It is hoped that the science and technology community in Zhuhai and Macao could take advantage of the great opportunities afforded by national strategies such as developing world science and technology powers and establishing the Greater Bay Area international science and technology innovation centers, prompt diversified development in Macao to stride toward new milestones, and inject new impetuses to the Greater Bay Area helping it to achieve greater development.
Deputy General Xu Jun delivered a speech
Deputy Director of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao S.A.R., Mr. Xu Jun also gave a speech. He mentioned that the establishment of the state key laboratories in M.U.S.T. and the Umac have been major measures taken by the Central People’s Government to commit to developing science and technology, prompt adequate diversification of Macao economy and elevate Macao’s science and technology standards. It is hoped that by way of the collaboration, transfer of innovative outcomes could be accelerated, and the two parties could combine their respective strengths, integrate industry and technologies, and seek joint development and achieve win-win cooperation.
President Liu Liang delivered a speech
President Liu Liang gave a speech, where he noted that M.U.S.T. has been acting on the principle of “Based on the needs of the nation and the strengths of Macao”, taking great initiative to integrate into the national innovative science and technology system and the general picture of national development. On November 29, the University and the Hengqin New District Management Committee signed the “Cooperation Framework Agreement” aiming to co-develop Hengqin Macau University of Science and Technology Industry-Education-Research Demonstration Base, linking scientific discoveries and technology outcomes with the industrial bases of Henqin New District in a seamless manner, providing technological support for high-tech industrial development of Hengqin, and making rightful contributions to the adequate diversification and sustainable development of Macao economy and the establishment of Greater Bay Area international science and technology innovation centers.
