Guidelines

I. Theme

“Love” is the theme of this short film competition. All kinds of love can be talked about, such as that you enjoy from the country, the society, schools, family members, friends, sweethearts or public benefits.

II. Purpose

This competition intends to encourage students to learn more about life and use their works to express love and other positive ideas. In the meantime, MACA can explore MUST film talents and promote local development of short films.

III. Requirements

  1. Running time: 5-10 minutes
  2. Format: MPEG-4 (MP4) or AVI (Resolution: 1280*720 or above)
  3. All submissions should be original and have never been used in any previous contests before.
  4. Any video submitted with illegal or unethical content will be disqualified, under which condition entrants should take full responsibility.

*MACA has the right to use entries for non-profit promotions.

IV. Eligibility

Current MUST students and alumni members

* Main creative members (director, producer, scriptwriter, photographer, editor, music editor, gaffer, recording engineer, art designer, costume manager, make-up manager and prop manager) must be current MUST students or alumni members, while actors can be invited.

V. Dates

1. Application.

September 5th-October 20th, 2016.

All applications should be filed in J213 in person, together with softcopies of an outline of screenplay (no more than 500 words, Word and PDF format [one for each], in Traditional Chinese and in Gothic, font-size 12).

2. Selection.

October 21st-31st, 2016.

Top 25 of all submissions will be shortlisted.

3. Training

Early November, 2016.

Famous experts will be invited to hold workshops for shortlisted members, including how to direct, shoot and edit short films.

Quota limit: 100 people.

Charge: Free.

P.S.

1) Shortlisted members have the right to quit before training.

2) At least one member of the final groups should take part in the training.

3) A deposit of MOP 3000 should be paid by all final groups for the training, which will be refunded only after the successful submission of the final short film. Otherwise, it is non-refundable.

4. Submission

December 1st, 2016- March 1st, 2017

Please submit a DVD to J213 in person during office hour. (DVD content: final short film, a still from submitting film and a photo of the whole group.)

5. Judgment and awards presentation

April, 2017.

VI. Awards (one winner for each award)

Champion: one certificate of merit, one trophy and a prize of MOP 20,000

Runner-up: one certificate of merit, one trophy and a prize of MOP 15,000

Second runner-up: one certificate of merit, one trophy and a prize of MOP 10,000

Best Director: one certificate of merit, one trophy and a prize of MOP 3000

Best Screenplay: one certificate of merit, one trophy and a prize of MOP 3000

Best Cinematography: one certificate of merit, one trophy and a prize of MOP 3000

Best Film Editing: one certificate of merit, one trophy and a prize of MOP 3000

Best Sound Editing: one certificate of merit, one trophy and a prize of MOP 3000

Best Original Music: one certificate of merit, one trophy and a prize of MOP 3000

Best Actor in a Leading Role: one certificate of merit, one trophy and a prize of MOP 3000

Best Actress in a Leading Role: one certificate of merit, one trophy and a prize of MOP 3000

Best Actor in a Supporting Role: one certificate of merit, one trophy and a prize of MOP 3000

Best Actress in a Supporting Role: one certificate of merit, one trophy and a prize of MOP 3000

VII. Judgment

  1. Film professionals will be invited as judges.
  2. During judgment, the content, performance, cinematography and editing of all submissions will be considered.
