On May 13th 2015, the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management invited Prof. Hanqin Qiu to deliver a public lecture on qualitative tourism research methods for its faculties and postgraduate students. Prof. Qiu is a full professor from School of Hotel and Tourism Management, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She is an achieved scholar, specialized in international tourism, tourism demand analysis, consumer behavior, tourism development and policy in Asia-Pacific area. During the lecture, Prof. Qiu shared theories and practices of qualitative research in hospitality and tourism industry, as well as her personal experience in conducting qualitative research. Her former doctoral student, now assistant professor at FHTM, Dr. Lianping Ren helped demonstrate the use of NVivo software in qualitative research. The lecture was well received by the students and teachers, evidenced by rounds of heated discussion during and after the lecture. Students and teachers in FHTM have also impressed Prof. Qiu, with their diligence and curiosity in qualitative research. the Faculty’s postgraduate program director Dr. Yong Zhou welcomed Prof Qiu and hosted the lecture.
