From May 23 to 29, a team of FHTM faculty and students participated in field trips in Yongding, Fujian Province and successfully completed the PATA sanctioned research project entitled “Sustainable Tourism in Yongding’s World Heritage Site: Capacity, Personal Value and Social Capital as the Mechanism”. The team included Mr. Huang Junyuan, Drs. Maria Lee, Jack Ly, Joe Zhou, Zhang Meng and Zhang Yang. Five graduate students also participated in the survey.
The foci of the research are the destination carrying capacity, heritage site and fire precaution. The interviews were undertaken for local officials, tourism official and heritage preservation bureaus. The in-depth interviews were conducted for local residents and their perception of tourism development. The research process was supported by the local government and represents the best team from FHTM.
