Culinary Demonstration Workshop by Celebrity Chef of China Michael Au at MUST

To celebrate the 23rd anniversary of Macau University of Science and Technology (M.U.S.T.), the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management (F.H.T.M.) of M.U.S.T. organized a Culinary Demonstration Workshop by Celebrity Chef of China Michael Au on April 28th, 2023. Celebrity Chef of China Michael Au was invited to demonstrate Chinese cuisine cooking techniques in an event that attracted over F.H.T.M. undergraduate students and postgraduate students. This workshop was sponsored by Macao Foundation.

Prof, Ben K. Goh Presented a Souvenir to Chef Michael Au

Prof. Ben K. Goh gave a warm welcome speech to the guests and said that over the past two decades, M.U.S.T. has made great strides and has been recognized for its focus in cutting edge, innovative education and research. F.H.T.M. at M.U.S.T continuously engaged all the stakeholders to further contribute to Macao’s social and economic development. With the aim of promoting tourism and hospitality in Macau, F.H.T.M. devotes to talent development and cultivation in hospitality industry through cooperation with industry partners and academic institutions. F.H.T.M. has kept enriching the students’ learning and experiences and enhancing their professional skills through offering or holding all kinds of courses, master lectures and culinary workshops. The university expects that through these events students may have the opportunities to learn from top chefs.

Chef Michael Au Shared his Experiences with Students

Chef Michael Au is the president and founder of Jinhe Dishes, a collaborator and executive director of Hainan Yazhihe Catering Culture Development. He also serves as the Vice President of the World Association of Chinese Cooking, International Judge for the World Cooking Competition, Honorary President of the Sydney Chefs Association in Australia, and President of the Guangdong Provincial Chef Committee. In 2002, he participated the World Chinese Cooking Competition with a fresh abalone dish and was nicknamed the “Abalone King of the South” and won the gold medal in the individual competition. In 2018, he was appointed as a UNESCO Ambassador for the promotion of Chinese food culture. Chef Michael Au has appeared on numerous culinary television programs in the United States, Malaysia, China, and other countries.

Signature Dishes

During the sharing session, Chef Michael Au demonstrated his signature dish, Abalone with Kidney Beans, Baked Abalone with Tomatoes and Black Truffle Salt-Baked Abalone. The Culinary Demonstration Workshop enriched the students’ knowledge and experiences and enhanced their professional skills in Chinese cuisine, which would certainly be a great treasure in his future career.
