FHTM students won the "Proposal of Innovative Conservation" at the 1st Asian Cultural Heritage Conservation & Utilization Proposal Competition

The Asian Cultural Heritage Youth Forum co-organized by the Asian Cultural Heritage Conservation Fund and the Sun Yat-sen University, and organized by the UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Tourism in UNESCO Designated Sites and the School of Tourism of Sun Yat-sen University, concluded successfully in April 2023 at the Sun Yat-sen University (Zhuhai Campus). After an exciting competition, the team of Macao MO-MO Family won the "Proposal of Innovative Conservation" for the A-Ma Temple as a heritage conservation object. Under supervision of Professor Timothy Lee, the team was organized by the first-year master students majoring in International Tourism Management from the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management (FHTM) at the Macau University of Science and Technology (M.U.S.T.).

This forum is based on the "National Student Proposal Contest for the Conservation and Utilization of Asian Cultural Heritage" for domestic students and the "Asian Cultural Heritage Conservation & Utilization Proposal Competition " for young people from all over Asia. It aims to encourage students from China and Asia to contribute to the conservation and utilization of Asian cultural heritage through field research and proposal writing. More than 5,000 young people from more than 10 countries, including China, the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia participated in this forum. A total of 20 teams were selected as finalists to participate in the Asian Cultural Heritage Youth Forum in Zhuhai from universities across Asia, including Macau University of Science and Technology, Sun Yat-sen University, Beijing Second Institute of Foreign Studies, Nanjing University, and Central South University.

Team Proposal

Through this event and forum, the students gained an in-depth understanding of the importance and urgency of Macao's historical and cultural heritage and heritage conservation. It made innovative use of their professional knowledge to contribute to the conservation and utilization of the A-Ma Temple. FHTM will continue to encourage students to actively participate in various competitions and strive to cultivate outstanding talents with a sense of social responsibility by combining theory and practice.
