FHTM Achieved First Prize and Best Teacher Award in the Exhibition Competition of the 4th National Business Elite Challenge for Universities

The exhibition competition (large-scale crowd management plan) of the 4th National Business Elite Challenge for Universities completed successfully on June 12, 2023. The team of students and teachers from Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management (FHTM) at Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) won first prize in this competition. A total of 236 universities registered for the competition, with 304 teams from 168 universities and over 2,100 students and teachers qualifying for the national finals. FHTM team stood out among many universities, becoming the only team from Macau to qualify for the national finals and winning the first prize. The team consisted of four third-year students majoring in international tourism management: Luo Jiahao, Rong Tianyu, Zhao Yiwei, and Zeng Zitong. The team was guided by Associate Professor Jose Weng Chou Wong from FHTM, who also won the Best Teacher Award in this competition.

The Students and Teachers from FHTM Had Online Discussions During the Competition

The competition was organized by the Business Industry Committee of the China International Chamber of Commerce and the Business Industry Chamber of the China International Chamber of Commerce, and co-organized by the Exhibition Safety Working Committee of the China Association of Work Safety and the Teaching Resource Library of Exhibition Planning and Management. Based on the importance of crowd management in exhibitions and various large-scale events, the competition aimed to enhance the awareness of crowd management among students majoring in exhibition-related fields and improve their professional practical skills in crowd management activities.

The work submitted by MUST team was titled "Crowd Management Plan for the Macau International Light Parade." Based on the annual celebration of Macau's return to China, the Macau International Light Parade was used as the main activity for demonstrating Macau's cultural charm, and the team wrote a crowd management plan according to the special characteristics of the Macau venue. The MUST team, “MOCulture,” conducted on-site inspections of the parade route and parking areas multiple times, properly planned and arranged the parade route and parking areas, conducted in-depth analysis of various risks, and proposed detailed and specific response plans.

The MUST team hopes that their plan can provide practical solutions for organizing large-scale events in Macau and serve as a reference for organizing events in other parts of China with narrow roads or other special conditions. This competition was the first time that MUST participated in this competition. The participating team stated that this competition helped them improve their emergency management capabilities and their thinking about risk control for large-scale events. In the future, FHTM will continue to encourage students to actively participate in national competitions, stimulate their potential in theory and practice, and contribute to the development of event planning in Macau and the Greater Bay Area.
