On October 11, 2023, 46 BITM students from FHTM, MUST who are studying the course of Service Management for Hotel and Travel Industry (DE5) led by Dr. Salott Chau visited the Londoner Hotel, Northern Palace Restaurant, and multiple 1:1 replica British attractions and national treasures under Sands Macau. This hotel visit has provided a valuable off campus authentic practice for undergraduate students majoring in international tourism at Macao University of Science and Technology.
The purpose of this activity is to understand the core competitiveness and characteristics of Sands Macao Group's hotels and restaurants through on-site visits and explanations from relevant staff, so that students can better learn the professional skills of the catering and hotel industry and improve their professional knowledge. In this activity, students learn about the relevant culture of the UK, learn the management models and service concepts of Londoner Hotels and Northern Palace Restaurants, and learn how to correctly handle relationships with customers, which greatly benefits students.
The most impressive observation is about the Londoners surroundings, they are designed in the British style such as double-decker buses, royal statues and guest room style layout. All these features have created the distinctive sense of experience into the British world., The director of the restaurant in the Northern Palace said, "there is no unresolved problems, we will provide guests with what they need". In addition, Londoners are also always aware of environmental issues, all biodegradable recyclable materials are adopted in all kinds of packaging; the unused soap and shower gel, etc. in the check-out rooms will be recycled. Every aspect of daily operations reflects the social responsibility of Londoners.
Normally participants visit and feel the hotel from the views of tourists, but this time, through the field trip, students were able to observe and review the hotel from the perspective of the staff, which made them understand that behind the scene, there are a lot of staff's efforts. Behind every clean and tidy cloth, every comfortable and cozy meal, and every satisfactory experience, the efforts of every hotel staff are indispensable.
Thanks to this filed trip, which gave FHTM MUST students another different understanding of hotels and hotel work, and this experience will help students a lot in their planning of future study and employment.
