On October 24, 2023, the Faculty of Hotel and Tourism Management (FHTM), Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) hosted a guest lecture delivered by Mr. Huen Kwok Chuen, Executive Director (Brand Spokesperson) of EGL Tours, under the theme "What EGL did during Cov-19 pandemic to overcome difficulties? The event was attended by Dean Ben Goh and Assistant Professor Salott Chau from FHTM at MUST, together with over a hundred students and faculty members.

At the beginning of the lecture, Dean Ben Goh extended a warm welcome to Mr. Huen Kwok Chuen on behalf of the entire faculty and students of FHTM. He expressed sincere gratitude to Mr. Yuen for sharing his insights with the students and presented a souvenir to Mr. Huen.

Mr. Huen Kwok Chuen serves as the Executive Director and Brand Spokesperson of EGL Tours, a Hong Kong-listed company. He is primarily responsible for overseeing the group's development, public relations, specialty gastronomic tourism, and supervising subsidiary branches in Macau. With extensive experience in the operation and management of travel agencies and hotels, Mr. Huen shared the story of EGL Tours, from its establishment in 1987, through investment phases, to its eventual success. He also discussed the challenges faced by the tourism industry during the pandemic, outlining the measures EGL Tours took to navigate the crisis, ultimately achieving a turnaround. In addition, he shared his thoughts about the importance of caring attitude upon employees. EGL has made special time arrangement for laying off staff in the pandemic period to enable staff could receive the highest compensation to demonstrate their great concern about their employee. From the date of establishment up till now, EGL faced various difficulties and ways to cope with these problems encounter can be summarized into “turn crisis into opportunities” and “reverse thinking”. By using this positive approach, EGL can be able to overcome each problem encounter and eventually brought to the group better opportunities ahead.

During the lecture, he referred to David Hawkins' energy levels to elucidate the qualities required for effective management. At the end, an engaging Q&A session took place, allowing students to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the operation and management of travel agencies. Through Mr. Huen Kwok Chuen's lively presentation, incorporating his personal experiences and professional insights, it is believed that students have gained a deeper understanding and clearer direction for their future career planning.
