As part of their experiential learning program, 142 BFBM students took part in a field survey of an organic farm in Zhongshan City and the Zhuhai Center of Agricultural Science and Research. They were accompanied by 11 members of faculty from the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management. During the field trip, students asked specific questions of local famers and managers about their farming practices in relation to organic farming and agri-tourism. Most of the students grew up in intensely urban environments and thus exposure to real farming experiences is an important part of their development. This survey is a component of their course entitled “Farm to Table Management” for the BFBM program, and it aims to operationalize the faculty strategy of experiential learning to help students strengthen their understanding of professional knowledge through real life experiences.
