Sponsored by Macau Foundation and hosted by Macau University of Science and Technology, Session Twelve of “MUST Great Master Seminars Series XVII” was held in Room N101 of the library building on December 3rd. Mr. Zhong Nanshan, well-known specialist in respiratory disease and academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, gave a lecture on “Scientific and Technological Innovation and Transformation”. The auditorium was crowded with more than 350 MUST teachers and students, as well as people who were attracted to come by his reputation.
During the seminar, Mr. Zhong explained in detail that medical innovation consists of two processes: medicine transformation and achievement transformation. The process from laboratorial research to formation of medical technology, and later to the practice of clinical diagnosis, treatment, and prevention, is called medicine transformation. The process from medicine transformation to standardized and normalized production, and finally to having economic and social benefits, is called achievement transformation. He pointed out that innovation and transformation happen on the basis of being realistic, honest, and cooperative. Only in this way can the science and technology in China be developed. In the end, he encouraged the students to keep doing exercise to stay healthy for the sake of scientific and technological innovation.
