Students of Chinese Medicine from Pan-Pearl River Delta Competed in A Clinical Skills Contest in Guangxi. Representatives of Faculty of Chinese Medicine, MUST Won the Second Prize

“Tian Yan Cup – The Second Clinical Skills Competition of Chinese Medicine Students from Pan-Pearl River Delta” was held in Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine in Nanning, Guangxi from Nov. 28th to 30th, 2014. More than ten universities of Chinese medicine from Pan-Pearl River Delta took part in the competition. On top of cost year’s success in winning the second prize of group award, the faculty sent 2 teachers and 3 students, who were awarded the same prize.

The competition was hosted by the National Chinese Medicine Teaching Advisory Board under the Ministry of Education, and organized by Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine. It aimed to propel the reform of the training mode of Chinese medicine specialists and the teaching system of clinical practice, to enhance the students’ knowledge of Chinese medicine and skills of clinical practice, to develop their innovation and cooperation, and to improve the qualities of the students and the professional training. There were 10 contests in the competition: a test of fundamental theories and knowledge of Chinese medicine, a knowledge contest of Chinese medicine, a knowledge contest of prescription, a drama contest of E.R. stories, and contests of different skills, such as nose diagnosis and pulse diagnosis, Chinese medicine surgery, acupuncture, massage, clinical reception and doctor-patient communication, first aid. 15 teams took part in the competition. They were from Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, Yunnan University of TCM, Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chengdu University of TCM, Guiyang College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Hainan Medical University, Hunan University of Chinese Medicine, Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Faculty of Chinese Medicine (MUST), School of Chinese Medicine (The Chinese University of Hong Kong), School of Chinese Medicine (Hong Kong Baptist University), Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine, and so on. More than 100 judges and audiences attended the activity, too.

At the end of the intense competition, 2 awards of the first prize, 6 of the second prize and 7 of the third prize were presented. The team from Faculty of Chinese Medicine, MUST won the second prize of group award. It was not only an opportunity but also a challenge to the competitors from MUST. They had a chance to enrich their knowledge through a large-scale national contest like this. In addition, it was beneficial to the improvement of teaching approaches and techniques, and the enhancement of the teaching experience and standard. The popularity and influence of Faculty of Chinese Medicine, MUST in the industry of Chinese medicine was also increased.
