2015 MUST Campus Career Fair Successfully Launched,
Hundreds of Companies Flocking to MUST for Talents

The Centre for Entrepreneurship and Career Planning (CECP) of MUST is hosting the 2015 MUST Campus Career Fair in the lobby of Block N today and tomorrow (March 16th -17th). This year’s fair has attracted 118 companies from Macao, Hong Kong and Guang Dong Province to participate. Ninety-two booths have been set up, over 3,000 vacancies are provided and 36 lectures on employment are scheduled for the graduating students. In his opening speech, President Chair Professor Liu Liang hoped the graduating students would make the best of the platform and opportunities that the University has provided and further prepare themselves for launching their careers, realizing their dreams and serving the society.

The opening ceremony of the 2015 MUST Campus Career Fair is honored to be officiated by Ms. Zhong Yi, member of the Executive Committee of Macau Foundation, Mr. Pu Hai Long, Deputy Minister of the Culture and Education Department, the Central People’s Government Liaison Office in the Macao SAR, Ms. Ho Sze Nga, Deputy Director of the Tertiary Education Services Office in Macao, Mr. Mang Sui Yee, Department Head of Labor Affairs Bureau, Macao SAR, Mr. Lam Kuan Fan, Division Head of Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau, and President Liu Liang, Vice President Chen Xi, and Vice President Tong Ka Lok of MUST.

In his speech, President Liu also remarked that it’s especially meaningful to have this career fair held in the 15th-anniversary celebration month. The university has attached great importance to and provided great support for her students’ employment and entrepreneurship, and will continue to do so through CECP by broadening employment channels, diversifying employment choices, and enhancing graduates’ competitive edge on the labor market as well as their potential for launching great careers. In doing this, the university will also provide talents for the implementation of Macao’s moderate economic diversification policy and sustainable development.

President Liu also noted that according to the survey on the situation of local graduates (Bachelor degree holders) of the last five years conducted by CECP, the overall employment and graduate school outcomes reach as high as 94%, within which 10% pursue further studies at graduate schools. President Liu expressed his satisfaction on behalf of the university at the high-percentage employment and graduate school outcomes. He also reported that during the period between 2010 and 2015, MUST has produced a total of 4,971 local graduates, including 45 doctors, 350 masters and 4,576 Bachelor’s degree holders. There will be 1,800 seniors including 800 local students and 600 master candidates graduating in this summer.

Being interviewed after the opening ceremony, President Liu further shared his perspective and concerns about the graduates. He noted that the employment of MUST graduates were very diversified, with MUST graduates making contributions in a vast array of industries including hotel, gaming, financing, science and technology, education, etc. The most popular industries have been hotel and gaming, followed by financing, IT and others. He believed that the thriving job market actually mirrored thriving economies in Macao and neighboring regions and it was the university’s responsibility to help students establish better employment prospects.

Mei Li, Director of Human Resources, Bao Da Industrial Corporation in Zhu Hai Special Economic Zone, represented the company to participate in the career fair by bringing more than 10 vacant positions. She said that due to their various investment projects in Macao, Zhuhai and Shandong, the prospective employees could choose wherever they’d like to stay and work. She also noted that the local graduating students might not find it attractive to work in Mainland China now, but with a few years’ experience, they probably would change their mind considering all the factors.

As an annual event organized by CECP of MUST, it’s been the fifth year now. Assistant Administrative Office Chan Sao Chai was happy to see the number of companies involved double this year—jumping from around 50 companies at the first fair to this year’s over 100. She promised to keep in close touch with all the companies and to make the future fairs better. She also mentioned a possibility that this event would be held semiannually or by each faculty/school of MUST in the future.
