Joint Meeting of Board of Trustees of MUST Foundation and University Council Held at MUST

On June 6, 2015, Macau University of Science and Technology held the joint meeting of the Board of Trustees of the MUST Foundation and the University Council; around forty board members and council members attended the joint meeting, and the meeting was chaired by Chairman Chui Sai Cheong of the Board of Trustees of the MUST Foundation.

At the meeting, Chairman Zhou Li Gao of the University Council addressed the joint meeting on the work of the Executive Committee of the University Council in the 2014/2015 academic year. He emphasized that as the standing unit of the University Council, the Executive Committee holds the responsibility of screening some important matters of the University, and all the committee members have showed great enthusiasm and commitment to their work at the Committee.

Following Chairman Zhou, President Liu Liang of MUST addressed the joint meeting on the work summary of 2014/2015 and the key points for work in 2015/2016. He noted that in this academic year the University continued to hold tight to two key elements: “quality” and “innovation”, actively pursued the implementation of the Strategic Plan, attached equal importance to teaching and research, accelerated the pace of internationalization, and made tremendous progress in teaching, research, management, social services, and other areas. In the Top 100 Universities Ranking provided by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University, MUST was elevated from the 72nd in 2013 to the 57th in 2014, and remained the youngest among the top 100 universities across the two straits and four regions.

Afterwards, Chairman Tsui Wai Kwan of the Supervisory Board of MUST Foundation briefed the committee on the financial status of the MUST Foundation, and held that the operational fund of the MUST Foundation is sound and the reserve is sufficient to satisfy the needs for future development.

Chairman Tong Chi Kin of the Advisory Committee affirmed that it is well known that MUST has made significant progresses over the past year, for example, the big increase at the number of published papers, the remarkable improvement at the quality of teaching, and the increasing attractiveness of the campus. The committee thought highly of the efforts jointly made by the university management and the faculty.

Before the meeting adorned, Chancellor Liu Chak Wan moved that the University Council members and the board members should convene more often so as to contribute ideas, insights and wisdoms for a better development of the University.
