Clinical Laboratory Diagnostic Centre of University Hospital continuously awarded new International Accreditation, remains the only internationally accredited medical laboratory in Macau

The Clinical Laboratory Diagnostic Centre of the University Hospital has on 21 September passed an on-site re-assessment administered by the National Association of Testing Authorities, Australia (NATA) and the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA).  It was awarded continuous international accreditation by NATA and RCPA according to ISO:18159 criteria. This is the 4th occasion that the Clinical Laboratory has attained continuous international accreditation.   It also marks the first time that besides its Chemical Pathology testing service, the Laboratory is comprehensively accredited also for its Hematology, Virus Infection Serology, Blood Banking and Transfusion services.

NATA is a leading international accreditation authority that is certified by the Australian Government for accrediting analytical and medical laboratories worldwide, and RCPA collaborates with NATA to jointly accredit medical laboratories for assurance of high proficiency and competence.

Training of front-line staff for the reassessment was conducted by Professor Christopher Lam (Director) and Mr Stephen Cheng (Manager) of the Clincial Laboratory. They were committed that staff and the Laboratory would derive much benefit from the process of preparing for accreditation. At the Exit Meeting, Australian assessors commended the Laboratory for its high standard of clinical practice.

To-date the Clinical Laboratory Diagnostic Centre of University Hospital remains the only internationally accredited medical laboratory in Macau. It will continue to strive in providing a proficient service for patients of the University Hospital and other patient groups. With continuous international accreditation, the Laboratory is also uniquely qualified for participation in multi-city international drug trials.

The University Hospital will soon be celebrating its 10th Anniversary of serving the Macau community. Staff of the Clinical Laboratory would like to dedicate their new achievement to University Hospital’s advancements in providing Macau with medical services at continuously elevating levels to reach the highest international standard.
