Macau University of Science and Technology held the Honorary Professorship Certificate Presentation Ceremony and “Masters of Chinese Medicine Forums”on the afternoon of October 24th, 2015 at the university auditorium. Prof. Zhou Li Gao, Chairman of University Council of MUST, presented the certificates to two renowned masters of Chinese Medicine: Prof Sun Guang Rong (Prof. Yang Jian Yu, a student of Prof. Sun, attended the ceremony on behalf of the teacher), and Prof. Zhu Zhi You.

“Masters of Chinese Medicine Forums”launched right after the ceremony. Prof. Zhu and Prof. Yang delivered brilliant speeches for the guests, teachers and students.

Prof. Sun stated that“Zhong He” (being moderate to the moral standard) in Chinese Medicine, rooted in the traditional Confucian philosophy that harmony is precious, was the guideline of the clinical reasoning in Chinese Medicine. He believed in the principle of the classical prescriptions instead of the use of specific medicine. Doctors should understand the pathogenesis, use the safe medicine, and stop the treatment when the disease is cured. In addition, the patients’ feeling has to be taken into consideration. Basing on his academic belief in the principle, dialectics and prescription of “Zhong He”, Prof. Sun explained the essentials of several classical prescriptions, such as Xiao Chai Hu Tang (minor bupleurum decoction), Xiao Jian Zhong decoction, and Li Zhong pills from Treatise on Febrile Diseases Caused by Cold, and Gan Mai Da Zao Tang (Decoction of licorice, wheat and fructus jujubae) from Golden Chamber Synopsis. The audience was enlightened and inspired by his speech.

Prof. Zhu believed that on the basis of the historical materialism, the classic medical literature such as Sheng Nong’s Herbal Classic and Treatise on Febrile Diseases Caused by Cold should be inherited, studied and explored systematically. He pointed out that these classics sometimes could not be interpreted from a modern point of view. Because Chinese traditional medicine and its theoretical system have been developed for thousands of years, the types of medicine have changed. Therefore, the study of classical prescriptions should be based on a good understanding of Sheng Nong’s Herbal Classic and Treatise on Febrile Diseases Caused by Cold. The research achievement will be significant to the application and development of Chinese Medicine.

Known as a great master of Chinese Medicine and Chinese Medicine Documentation, and a clinical doctor, Prof. Sun Guang Rong used to be a committee member of Advisory Committee of Reform and Development under State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Committee of Chinese Medicine Cultural Development and Scientific Popularization, and Committee of Chinese Medicine Continuing Education. He is one of the academic leaders of Chinese Medicine Documentation, and one of the founders of distance education of Chinese Medicine.

Prof. Zhu Zhi You has dedicated to the research on clinical pharmacy of Chinese Medicine for 48 years. Working for the National Inheritance Studio Project of Chinese Medicine Experts, State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Prof. Zhu is a renowned master of Chinese Medicine, Ph. D supervisor, professor of Pharmacy, clinical pharmacist and licensed pharmacists.

Prof. Zhou Hua, Associate Dean of Faculty of Chinese Medicine, MUST, and Ms. Liao Ning, Director of Exchanges and Cooperation Center with Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau under State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, also attended the ceremony.
