MUST Organized the 2nd Annual Meeting of the Specialty Committee of Immunology of Traditional Chinese Medicine of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies cum the Cross-Strait Forum on Treatment of Rheumatism with Chinese Medicine

The 2nd Annual Meeting of the Specialty Committee of Immunology of Traditional Chinese Medicine of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies cum the Cross-Strait Forum on Treatment of Rheumatism with Chinese Medicine was held at the auditorium of Macau University of Science and Technology on December 4th, 2015. About 200 experts, practitioners, and students of Immunology of Traditional Chinese Medicine from the Mainland China, Germany, Hong Kong and Macau attended the meeting.

The guests attending the opening ceremony included Prof. She Jing, Ex-Vice Director of National Ministry of Health and President of World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies, Mr. Pu Hai Long, Vice Director of Culture and Education Department, Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau S.A.R.,

Ms. Li Nan, Director of Public Diplomacy and Information Department, Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the P.R.C., Mr. Cheang Kun Wai, member of Administrative Committee of Macau Science and Technology Development Fund, Prof. Zhou Jian Hua, Director of Academic Office, the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies, Prof. Zhou Li Gao, President of the MUST School Board and President of Cross-Strait Scientific Collaboration Center for Chinese Medicine, Prof. Liu Liang, President of MUST and President of the board of directors, the 1st Annual Meeting of the Specialty Committee of Immunology of Traditional Chinese Medicine of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies.

In his welcome speech, Prof. Liu Liang on behalf of the committee and the university expressed his gratitude for the guests’ attendance. He reviewed the history of the establishment of the specialty committee, summarized its projects of promoting academic exchange and cooperation, setting up web site to share information, and recruiting new members in the past year, and introduced the achievements of education and research of traditional Chinese Medicine in Macau. He stated that MUST had dedicated to combining traditional Chinese Medicine with Modern Medicine, and establishing a system with education, medical practice and research. Faculty of Chinese Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, University Hospital, Macau Institute for Applied Research in Medicine and Health, State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicines, Macau Institute of Translational Chinese Medicine and Macau Research Center for International Standard of Chinese Medicines have been set up. In 2016, the university will launch a new 5-year undergraduate program for Bachelor of Pharmacy in Chinese Medicine. Prof. Liu also revealed that the next meeting would be held in Germany.

On behalf of Administrative Committee of Macau Science and Technology Development Fund, Mr. Cheang Kun Wai said that the establishment of the Specialty Committee of Immunology of Traditional Chinese Medicine would not only boost the development of Immunology of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Macau but also introduce it to the world. The S.A.R. government has supported Macau to develop its education and technology since its returning to the country 15 years ago. Thanks to the support from the central government and National Ministry of Science and Technology, State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicines was set up in 2011. Since then, the university and the laboratory have made great effort to recruit scholars, develop Biotechnology and carry out researches on quality of traditional Chinese Medicine and new medicine. Mr. Cheng also urged the researchers of the laboratory to increase the number of research papers published on first-class international journals, cultivate outstanding talents, and create patented products with practical value for the country and the city’s economic and social development.

Prof. She Jing spoke highly of the Specialty Committee’s effort on developing the committee and promoting its communication and cooperation with other societies and experts of Immunology, and the achievement of State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicines, which was led by Prof. Liu Liang, on the research of Chinese patent medicine for anti-inflammation, immunization and anti-arthritis. She expected that the committee, as a link of institutes of Immunology from different countries and regions, would promote the academic exchange, share the research achievements, lay down related standard, boost the development of Chinese Medicine and serve the public.

In order to develop Immunology of Traditional Chinese Medicine and popularize it to the world, internationally well-known experts of Immunology, Chinese Medicine and Biological Medicine were invited to attend the meeting. There were 31 meetings and lectures on clinical and fundamental research of prevention of Rheumatism, Tumor Immunity, Immune Intervention and new medicine.
The meeting was organized by the Specialty Committee of Immunology of Traditional Chinese Medicine of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies, hosted by Macau University of Science and Technology and co-hosted by Cross-Strait Scientific Collaboration Center for Chinese Medicine. It was also sponsored by Macau Foundation and Macau Science and Technology Development Fund.
