Cross-strait Experts of Chinese Medicine Gathered in Zhuhai, Sharing Ideas on Development of TCM

On February 27, 2016, the Cross-Strait Scientific Collaboration Center for Chinese Medicine (hereafter, the Center) held its annual council meeting for 2016 in Zhuhai Yindu Hotel; more than 50 Chinese Medicine experts across the two straits attended the conference and shared ideas on the development of Chinese Medicine in the Greater China. Ms. Wang Xiao Pin, Director-general of the International Cooperation Department of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Cheang Kun Wai, Member of the Administrative Committee of the FDCT, Mr. Xia Jing, Assistant of the Department of Culture and Education, the Liaison Office of the People’s Republic of China in the Macao Special Administrative Region, Mr. Xu Qing Feng, Chief of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Bureau of Guangdong Province, Mr. Li Li, Chief of the Health and Family Planning Bureau of Zhuhai, Prof. Zhou Li Gao, Chairman of the University Council of MUST, and President of the Center, Chair Prof. Liu Liang, President of MUST and Chairman of the Council of the Center, Prof. Chen Chieh-Fu of Taiwan Yang Ming University, Prof. Zhao Zhong Zhen, Vice Dean of the School of Chinese Medicine, Hong Kong Baptist University, and Mr. Wei Chun Yu, Director of the International Cooperation Department of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine of the People’s Republic of China.

Chair Prof. Liu Liang, Chairman of the Council of the Center addressed the Opening Ceremony, and Prof. Zhou Li Gao, President of the Center presented a work report on behalf of the Center. Chair Prof. Liu Liang extended the warmest welcome to the experts and guests that attended the meeting, and sincere thanks to the administration departments, professional societies, and the experts of the neighboring region for the tremendous support they’ve given to the Center. Chair Prof. Liu noted that the TCM will welcome new development opportunities and the work of the Center will become more important in the future and produce more far-reaching significances because the Center is a tie that’s jointly created by the colleagues of the TCM across the two straits, and it is also a great platform for the TCM practitioners in the Greater China to conduct TCM science and technology collaborations and seek benefits for the Public of the two straits. He wishes that the guests continues to give their greatest care and support to the Center so as to enable it to better unify the TCM elites of the Greater China and contribute wisdoms and strengths to the promotion of one of the greatest treasures of the traditional Chinese culture – the Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Director General Wang Xiao Pin spoke on behalf of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine of the People’s Republic of China, congratulating the Center on the convening of the conference. She noted that ever since the Center was established in 2008, it has made extraordinary contributions to the promotion of TCM exchanges and collaborations between the mainland China and the Hong Kong-Macau-Taiwan region; the Central Government places the development of TCM as one of the high priorities and has included the TCM as one of the strategic goals of our country. It is hoped that the Center continues to exert its strengths and make new contributions to the joint development of the TCM across the two straits and four regions. Mr. Xu Qing Feng and Mr. Li Li made introductions about the development and progresses of Zhuhai and Guangdong in TCM, and noted that they would like to continue to provide full support for the Center to seek for more cooperation in Guangdong and Zhuhai. Prof. Chen Chieh-Fu, Prof. Zhao Zhongzhen, and Prof. Zhou Li Gao also spoke at the Opening Ceremony, respectively representing Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau.

Prof. Zhou Li Gao, Presient of the Center presented the work report on behalf of the 1st Council of the Center. The report gave a full summary of the different achievements and progresses of the Center in many regards, including training and scholarly exchanges, scientific research, standardization of TCM, and others. Prof. Zhou noted that the Center would continue to hold high-standard academic exchanges and training, move forward scientific research collaborations, improve the development of the information platform for the standardization of TCM, provide technological support for the “Hengqin Guangdong-Macau Chinese Medicine Industrial Park”, and deepen the cooperation with the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine.

Also at the conference, the new council members and members of the Supervisory Board of the Center took office. The Conference was held by the Cross-Strait Scientific Collaboration Center for Chinese Medicine, organized by the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine of MUST, and supported and sponsored by the Macao Foundation and the FDCT.
