Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macau Special Administrative Region Dr. Tam Chon Weng visited Macau University of Science and Technology on July 7th. The visitors were warmly received by MUST President Chair Prof. Liu Liang, Vice President Dr. Tong Ka Lok, Administrative Officer of President’s Office Mr. Kwong Ying Wa and Dean of Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management Prof. Xie Fei Fan.

During the meeting, Dr. Tam said that as one of the biggest universities in Macau, MUST had grown and developed steadily since its establishment in 2000. He hoped that with the support from Macau SAR government, MUST would extend its influence in Portuguese-speaking countries and the world, and cultivate more excellent talents. He believed that under President Liu’s guidance, MUST would have a bright future.

President Liu expressed his gratitude to Dr. Tam’s support, saying that the university would comply with Macau government’s policy of “Talents and Macau; Education and Macau” and the idea of moderate economic sustainable development -“One Center; One Platform”. He said that insisting on the belief that research and education were equally important and holding to the three keys – “Innovation, quality and achievement”, the university would cultivate more creative, capable and patriotic talents for Macau. President Liu has focused on introducing the measures for developing quality education, including offering new programs to meet the need of Macau’s society and its development in the future; carrying out course evaluation to optimize the curriculum; attracting more excellent teachers and researchers to MUST and enhancing the quality of teaching staff; accelerating the progress of internationalization and diversity of students; improving the conditions of teaching laboratories; and so on. Dr. Tam spoke highly of the achievements the university had made.

After the meeting, Dr. Tam and other guests, accompanied by President Liu, inspected the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicines and the teaching restaurant – the Seasons. Besides, President Liu introduced the Ceramics Studio and Metal and Wood Arts Design Lab of Faculty of Arts to the guests. Dr. Tam was greatly impressed by the facilities.

The accompanied guests included Office Director of Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Mr. Ip Peng Kin, Consultant Ms. Ho Lai Chun and Mr. Lam Hiu Pak.
