Macau University of Science and Technology held Ceremony for Presentation of Scholarships and Grant Awards at N101 of the library building on November 8, 2016. At the ceremony, 26 scholarships, grant awards, and advancement awards were given out to 197 excellent students of M.U.S.T.. Representatives of the donor institutions that attended the Ceremony include Mr. Eddie Kong, CEO of the Banco Comercial De Macau (BCM), Mr. Huang Xiao Hua, CEO of YGsoft, and Ms. Lin Jie Hui, Person in charge of University-Company Cooperation of YGsoft, Mr. Jiang Kui Wei, Assistant of President of Bank of China (Macau branch), and Ms. Chen Fan, Director of Banking Business Development Department, Bank of China (Macau branch), Mr John Si, Director General of the Henry Fok Foundation, Ms. Io Wai Ieng, Adviser of Macao Foundation, Ms. Angel Wong, Circulation & Marketing Director of China Daily Asia-Pacific, Ms. Katy Lo, Chief of Executive Committee Office (Director) of Macau International Airport Co. President Liu Liang of M.U.S.T. addressed the Ceremony, noting that the University presents the Ceremony for Presentation of Scholarships and Grant Awards as a token of acknowledgement and incentives for the hard work of the excellent students; he also took the opportunity to extend great thanks to the friendly partners for the long-time trust and support they bestow upon the University in helping the University to advance forward and foster talents for the Macau community. President Liu quotes Mr. Zhu Ge Liang’s famous saying, “To study, one must stay calm and focused, to gain talents, one must study. If one doesn’t study, one cannot broaden his talents, if one has no ambition; one cannot succeed in conducting knowledge”, to remind the students that it is highly important for students to be “focused”, “ambitious”, and “perseverant”. He expects the students to uphold the University’s motto, “dedication to practical studies, and enhancement of knowledge, ability and quality”, and act on the spirit of M.U.S.T. to “to strive to become stronger and pursue excellence”. He invites the students to join hands with the University in seizing two key factors in development: “quality” and “innovation”, never stop in conducting knowledge and developing career, and make great contributions for the society and the nation.
Representative of the scholarship winners, Tan Wen Yan from Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management thanks all the scholarship donors on behalf of all the students. He mentioned that living in the age when the Internet grows fast and innovation of science and technology happens daily, we are blessed with unlimited opportunities for development; however, in order for us to catch the opportunities, we must identify the goals, harbor a positive attitude, concentrate on studies, continuously strengthen our own intelligence and quality, and make contributions for social progresses.
Ceremony for Presentation of Scholarships and Grant Awards is held for the purpose of giving incentives to students who perform extraordinarily in academics; by having the representatives of the scholarship providers to present the awards to the students, it is meant to offer students acknowledgement and recognition so as to encourage them to continue working hard in their study. It is also hoped that the Ceremony will send a message to other students to work hard in their studies and improve their academic achievements. President Liu presented the first-ever Thank You Certificates to the scholarship donors as a token of gratitude for their support to the university.
At the Ceremony, the University also gave out Outstanding Award of Culture & Scholarship, Outstanding Award of Social Services, and Outstanding Award of Health & Sports, and Award for Design of Student Handbook, hoping to encourage students to work hard in their professional fields and simultaneously pursue all-round development. Other guests that attended the Ceremony are President Liu Liang of M.U.S.T., Vice President Pang Su Seng, Vice President Tong Ka Lok, Vice President Jiang Zhi Hong, Vice President Pang Chuan, Associate Vice President Sun Jian Rong, deans of the faculties/schools, and teachers.
