Macau University of Science and Technology held a ceremony to launch celebrations of the University’s 18th Anniversary in front of the Administrative Building in the afternoon of February 28, 2018. Chairman Zhou Ligao of the University Council of MUST, President Liu Liang, Vice President Tong Ka Lok, Vice President Jiang Zhi Hong, Associate Vice President Lin Zhijun, Associate Professor Wei Huiping, winner of the 2016/2017 Outstanding Teachers’ Awards, Mr. Man Choi, council member of the Alumni Federation, Chairman Zhang He of the Postgraduates Association, and Chairman Liang Zi Jian of the Students’ Union, officiated the ceremony. Around 300 teachers and students attended the ceremony to unveil the celebration month of 18th anniversary.

President Liu Liang gave a speech at the ceremony, noting that in the course of its 18 years of development, the University has been striving for self-improvement and extraordinariness, and has written new chapters in higher education and scientific development. MUST has made new advancements and progresses in nurturing talents, academic research and social services. The State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicines has passed the evaluation of the Macao S.A.R. Government and the National Ministry of Science and Technology with excellent performances; preparation for establishment of the State Key Laboratory of Lunar and Planetary Sciences has been smooth. The University has gained approval by the National Ministry of Education to establish key partner research bases in humanities subjects and social sciences with four mainland Chinese higher institutions. New heights have been reached in research projects, academic papers and international patents; MUST students claimed championship at the Global Management Challenge for the second time with world attention; the University has done well in admission, the quality of graduates and undergraduates significantly improved. In 2017, the University took the lead and completed institutional quality audit by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education, U.K. (QAA); the QAA Panel gave positive commendations and affirmations to the University’s educational provisions, which demonstrated that the quality assurance systems, mechanisms and outcomes for higher education at MUST have reached international standards. The new teaching complex was newly opened installed, which further improved the University teaching facilities. At the “2017 Ranking of Top Universities in Greater China” by the Center for World-Class Universities at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Shanghai Rankings, MUST made new record and, for the first time, entered Top 30, ranked 28th.
Afterwards, the officiating guests pulled the ribbons in their hands and flied the ceremonial balloons, which bear “MUST 18” on them, and officially launched the anniversary month. In celebration of the 18th anniversary of MUST, there will be a series of events, including a ceremony for conferment of honorary doctoral degrees, large-scale academic events, exhibitions, competitions.
