Aerospace Forum Prompting Space Science to Integrate into Urban Development

Administrated by the Macao S.A.R. Government, the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government of P.R.C. in Macao S.A.R., and the China National Space Administration, organized by the China Space Foundation and the Macao Foundation, co-organized by the China Aerospace Science & Technology Consulting Co., Ltd. and the Flight Family (Beijing) Science & Technology Co., Ltd., and hosted by the Macao China Friendship Association, Macau University of Science and Technology, and the Macau Association for the Promotion of Space Technology, the Macao International Aerospace Forum (MIAF) is held on November 8 & 9, 2018 at Macao Sands Cotai Central and Macau University of Science and Technology, respectively.

The Opening Ceremony of the MIAF was held at the Loulan Conference Room of Sands Cotai Central at 10am on November 8th. Mr. Ho Hau Wah, Vice-Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Mr. Zhang Rongshun, Deputy-Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao S.A.R., Ms. Shen Beili, Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Macao S.A.R., Dr. Tam Chon Weng, Secretary of Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao S.A.R Government, Mr. Li Guoping, Secretary General of China National Space Administration, Dr. Liu Chak Wan, Standing Committee Member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and President of the Macao China Friendship Association, Mr. Peter Lam, Member of the Executive Council of Macao and Chairman of the University Council of the University of Macau, Dr. Wu Zhiliang, Member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and the President of Macao Foundation, Mr. Wu Zhijian, Chairman of the China Space Foundation, Mr. Alfred Worden, Astronaut from NASA, Mr. Frank Zeppenfeldt, Head of the “Future Satellite Program” of the European Space Agency, and Chair Prof. Liu Liang, President of Macau University of Science and Technology officiated the Ceremony and unveiled the Forum.

The main theme of MIAF was “Space Technologies and Urban Life” as its and takes international themed seminars as main forms, including one session of keynote speeches, one Masters’ Forum, and three sub-forums. In particular, Mr. Bao Weimin, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Director of the Science and Technology Committee of the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation chaired the keynote speeches. Speakers were Mr. Zhao Jian, Deputy Director of the Department of System Engineering of the China National Space Administration, Dr. Nguyuen Chien-chung from the Policy Research and Regional Development Bureau, Macao S.A.R. Government, Mr. Sun Weigang, General Engineer of the China Aerospace Science and Technology Group Co. Ltd., Mr. Frank Zeppenfeldt, specialist from the ESA, Secretary Hou Xiufeng of the China Aerospace Science and Industry Group Co. Ltd., and Mr. Geng Hujun, Chief Expert of the China Electronic Technology Group Co. Ltd. In addition, speakers who shared in-depth insights on the relevant areas at the Masters’ Forum include Mr. Bao Weimin, Member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Director of the Science and Technology Committee of the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Mr. Anthony Garon Yeh Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Mr. Pan Delu, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Mr. Sun Dongbai, Provost of Sun Yat-sen University, Mr. Alfred Worden, Astronaut from NASA, and Prof. Zhang Keke, Director of SKL Lunar and Planetary Sciences, M.U.S.T.

Following the keynote speeches and the Masters’ Forum are three sub-forums, addressing “Build Smart Cities with Space Technologies”, “Forum II: Commercial LEO Innovations and Opportunities”, and “Aerospace Culture and Science Popularization”. The Forum has brought together 300 experts and scholars in the field of aerospace from mainland China, the U.S.A., and other regions, including governmental leaders from mainland China and Macao, science and technology representatives from embassies of France, the Netherlands, and Germany, delegates from the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, former head of the European Space Agency, several renowned academicians in space science from mainland china, specialists and scholars of research institutions, representatives of many universities home and abroad, and representatives of many international corporations involved in commercial space activities, private space enterprises and emerging small-scale enterprises from mainland China.
