M.U.S.T. Students and Teacher of Portuguese Major Win Award in World Chinese-Portuguese Translation Competition

In celebration of Macao’s 20th Anniversary for returning to the motherland, in response to the national “Belt & Road” initiative, the Macao Higher Education Bureau and the Macao Polytechnic Institute co-organized the “3rd World Chinese-Portuguese Translation Competition”, and held the award-presentation ceremony for the contest on July 24, 2019. This year participated a total of 160 teams representing universities from Macao, Mainland China, Brazil, Portugal and other Portuguese-speaking countries. Each team is comprised of three students plus one teacher as the coach.

Headed by Lecturer Han Yibing of the Portuguese program of the University International College (UIC), the M.U.S.T. team was teamed up by 3 senior students of Portuguese major, Li Jieyi, Sun Fengyue, and Wang Lufei. The team performed outstandingly in the competition, and finally claimed the Runner-up in the category of “Special Awards for Teams from Macao Higher Education Institutions”. It’s worth noting that the category only consists of two prizes: champion and runner-up.

Since its inception, the Portuguese program has made great accomplishments in teaching, with many in-study students winning prizes and awards in Portuguese-themed contests, such as “Portuguese Poetry Recital Contest”, “Portuguese Debate Contest” and “Portuguese Speech Contest”. The University International College of M.U.S.T. will continue to empower the growth of the Portuguese program and cultivate multi-cultural bilingual Chinese-Portuguese talents for Macao and Mainland China.
