M.U.S.T. Ranked in Top 300 in World University Rankings for the First Time

The United Kingdom’s Times Higher Education published the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020, local U.K. time, on the 11th of September. Macau University of Science and Technology (M.U.S.T.) made to the list for the first time, ranked among the top 251-300. Thus, the University is now a top-300 world university, which marks the substantial progress made by the higher education section of Macao since it returned to the motherland 20 years ago.

Over the past 19 years, Macau University of Science and Technology has commit to cultivating outstanding talents, developing high-quality education and extraordinary research, fostering economic development and furthering social progresses. With the great support by the Central People’s Government and the S.A.R. Government, through the efforts of generations of MUSTers, the University has become the largest-scale local university. Since 2013, the University started to adopt the policy of attaching equal importance to teaching and research, identified quality and innovation as the core driving forces for the university’s development, and brought in more than 300 outstanding teaching and research talents from home and abroad. By reforming the teaching models and management systems, creating a system of higher education programs which cater to the societal needs, establishing new high technology platforms for pioneer areas, expanding high-level academic exchanges and cooperation regionally, nationally and internationally, amongst a series of other measures, the University has achieved fast growth in all its educational strengths, academic standards, science and technology innovation abilities and cultural impacts, which enabled it to become an important mark for Macao’s fast development in higher education and innovative science and technology.

In 2019, the University was approved to offer the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery program, which made a new breakthrough in its program development. The University integrated and reorganized its existing programs in public health, nursery and food and nutrition, and established Macao’s first medical school, the Faculty of Medicine of M.U.S.T. Along with the Faculty of Chinese Medicine, the School of Pharmacy, the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine, and the University Hospital, the newly established Faculty of Medicine completes the Univesity’s medical education system. This enables M.U.S.T. to become the first university in Macao which has the capacity to provide medical talents for the society, generate medical research outcomes, and offer high-quality medical services.

Moving ahead, M.U.S.T. will continue to uphold its motto of “Dedication to practical studies, enhancement of knowledge, ability and quality”, hold tight to “quality” and “innovation”, the two key development factors for the University, deepen and implement the policy of attaching equal importance to teaching and research, accelerate and advance internationalization, cultivate more patriotic talents who love China and Macao, create more science and technology outcomes, and contribute forces to the moderate diversification and sustainable development of Macao economy and to the progress of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
