M.U.S.T. Scholar Receives Fok Ying-Tung Prize The World Outstanding Chinese Doctor Award

The 2019 Annual Conference of the World Association of Chinese Doctors and China Smart Health Summit opened in Qingdao, Shandong Province, on September 20. Dean of Faculty of Medicine, Macau University of Science and Technology, Prof. Manson Fok received the 2019 Fok Ying-Tung Prize The World Outstanding Chinese Doctor Award. In addition, President and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of M.U.S.T., Chair Prof. Liu Liang was awarded a nomination prize.

President Shi Liying of the World Association of Chinese Doctors read the Association’s decision, awarding 10 winners and another 10 nominees nomination prizes.

The award was set up upon decisions by the Council of the World Association of Chinese Doctors to be named in honor of outstanding leader Dr. Fok Ying-Tung. It is sponsored by the Henry Fok Foundation, and is the only and the highest award for world Chinese doctors. The award aims to commend and empower outstanding representatives of the medical community, spread and communicate the essential spirits of the Chinese cultural traditions, mastering contemporary advanced medical sciences and technologies, upholding high moral and technical standards, integrating Chinese and western cultures, and contributing to medical exchanges between China and other countries. The award is also meant to stimulate and encourage more Chinese doctors to work hard and contribute to the general health and wellbeing of people all over the world, to increase the recognition and support given to Chinese doctors wherever they practice medicine, and expand the social impacts of the World Association of Chinese Doctors.

Over the years, Prof. Manson Fok has been moving forward the integration of medical services across the Greater Bay Area, fortifying the cooperation between China and the Lusophone countries and the Belt & Road countries in terms of medical education and medical training. Since the 1st Sino-Luso International Medical Forum was held in May of 2011, altogether 50 series have been held up to 2019. Prof. Fok was awarded Gusi Peace Prize in Humanitarianism in 2014, and granted the title of Knight Commander of Rizal in 2019. Since joining Macau University of Science and Technology in 2010, the professor has been devoted to medical education in Macao. Due to his hard work and leadership, the first medical school of the Macao S.A.R was established in March of 2019, starting a new chapter for Macao both in medicine and in education.
